Pls no kids/pets. Want to get away from city life & still be close to all Sonoma County offers? Drive 1/2 mile up a narrow one lane road & walk down 32 steps to a peaceful, private log cabin nestled in the forest. Enjoy a well-stocked kitchen, wi fi, central heat & wood stove, plus a sunny front porch, spacious deck & forested back yard. About a 10 min walk to the river, 4.5 miles to Guerneville, 6.3 miles to Hwy 1 & the Pacific Ocean. Guests love being close to nature in this cozy quiet cabin! The space Guest Corinne says, “This is definitely a cabin of want for nothing. All any house guest would need!” We are happy to share our special retreat with people who will treat our private home with respect and will appreciate all the unique features that we have created and enjoy ourselves. We are tucked away in the forest with a few quiet neighbors, and we don’t want to disturb their peaceful surroundings. I answer every reservation request personally, and we do our own housekeeping. We do not have a property management company or a housecleaning service. ROAD TO THE CABIN: The narrow, single lane roads around the cabin will invite you to wander and explore, either walking or biking. Some people are nervous driving to the cabin the first time. Just remember to treat the road as a one way street, using the whole road to drive on. Look for small spaces beside the road where you can pull out if another car comes, but usually they will find a way to pull over for you. Some guests recommend driving the road to the cabin in the daylight the first time. After that first drive, it will be easy. STAIRS DOWN TO THE CABIN: You will need to walk down 32 steps to get to the cabin, and back up to your car. There is a landing with benches half way down. The cabin itself is a two story home, so you will have a short flight of stairs to get to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom. CLIMATE: My advice?—Pack layers! The area around Monte Rio and Guerneville has many microclimates. Remember that the cabin is in a redwood forest (technically a mixed evergreen forest). It can be very hot in Guerneville or down at the river, but it is a relief from that heat when you get to the cabin. If the ocean beach is foggy, sometimes that fog will creep into the forest. The trees are the only air conditioning you will need. You will find central heat and a wood stove. CABIN: Our log cabin was built from a kit in the 1960s. We were fortunate to discover this home and have spent years lovingly restoring it to its former charm. We kept many of the original features (such as plywood walls and one bathroom sink), but replaced other features (such as deteriorating laminate kitchen countertops). Our cabin is filled with one-of-a-kind treasures that we have found in second hand stores and yard sales and then restored. The bedrooms are separated from each other so you can even enjoy privacy within the cabin. Each of the bedrooms is decorated to feature one of Sonoma County's regions--vineyards, farmlands, the Pacific coast, and the redwood forest. Sinking into bed feels luxurious, tucked between the micro fleece sheets and soft, fuzzy blankets. Enjoy a view of the forest from every room in the house except one bathroom. To rehab the cabin, we worked with Sonoma County, a soils engineer, a structural engineer, and other experts. We didn’t fix the slant of the cabin, but the experts made sure it’s safe. You might notice that slant when walking around the cabin. OUTDOOR SPACES: We paid close attention to replacing the rotten outdoor spaces since nature always calls to us. You will love the results as you sit peacefully on the large, quiet deck surrounded by towering redwoods, or watch the birds during breakfast on the sunny front porch (which isn't as sunny in the winter when the sun is low in the sky), or while you wander in the back yard and find little seating areas under the trees. WILDLIFE HABITAT: We are a certified wildlife habitat, certified by the National Wildlife Federation. We provide wildlife with food, water, cover, and places to raise young. We have plenty of bird feeders and bird and bat boxes, as well as locally native plants. We don't use pesticides or poisons. We are in a rural area in a forest that is home to wildlife. Enjoy being close to nature! You may see a bat flying overhead at dusk or hear a fox or deer walking in the open spaces near the cabin. You might happen upon a spider occasionally. I do my best to usher spiders outside as often as possible, but every once in a while one will escape me. ; ) The cabin is a magical retreat in the redwoods! Please come enjoy this peaceful place to unwind at the end of a day of exploring what Sonoma County has to offer! Guest access Our entire home is open to you except for a few locked cupboards or drawers where we keep our personal items. We love to spend time at the cabin! The cabin is on a narrow, seldom traveled country road with parking for two or three cars beside the road. If you follow my specific directions, which include odometer readings, it is easy to find. There are 32 steps going down to the cabin from the road. There is a landing half way down with h two benches. You will be a ten minute walk from the local river beach, Patterson Point, which is owned and managed by a local group called Friends of Villa Grande. We are members of this group. The group's main focus is to preserve the beach in its natural state. You will want to drive to the many other features of the area--the Pacific Ocean, local restaurants and restaurants in Guerneville or Occidental and beyond, and the famous Sonoma County wineries. If you're a golfer, there are two golf courses within close driving distance. The local public beach, Monte Rio Beach, is two miles away, easily accessible either walking or driving, depending on the amount of walking you want to do. Other things to note Sonoma County TOT #2514N Sonoma County Vacation Rental License #LIC24-0143 Sonoma County vacation rental ordinances are very strict about noise! They require quiet hours from 9:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited. Please keep this in mind. We like our neighbors and hope that you will respect their quiet environment. We don't want to get a phone call from them complaining about our renters. Our vacation rental permit allows no more than three cars to be parked near our home. For your privacy, we disable all security cameras except the one facing the road when you are occupying the cabin. We leave the stairway camera (facing the road) on for everyone's safety. We recommend that you purchase Airbnb or other travel insurance in case there are travel disruptions before or during your stay. What happens if someone in your group becomes sick or injured? What happens if you need to leave early? What happens if there is severe weather or a wildfire? Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) insurance will cover you for any unexpected expenses and non-refundable fees. If you decide to purchase trip insurance, it’s important to pursue it right away. There is a time limit for how long after you pay for your trip that you qualify to purchase that insurance. For CFAR insurance, you must purchase it within 14 days. If you opt to take out Airbnb travel insurance, you will find it under the “Add to Your Trip” button on your booking confirmation email and the reservation details page. There are other resources for trip insurance (although I cannot recommend any particular plan). For single trip insurance, you could go to Allianz Insurance or Travelguard among others. There are also sites that compare trip insurance like Forbes or InsureMyTrip. (I’m not allowed to publish website links here.) Registration number ZPE15-0822
