The property is nestled in a woodland of hemlock, pine, ash, oak, cherry and hickory trees. The cottage boasts a full kitchen, dining room, laundry, free 200 Mbps wi-fi, a computer for guest use, tv for watching movies, a front porch for enjoying a nice bottle of local wine at the end of a day on the lake or enjoying all that the Finger Lakes has to offer. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a lakeside view. The extra bedroom has a full bed with a view of the woods. There are 4 kayaks and a Sunfish sailboat available for guest use. Life vests are available as well. 500' of private shoreline is adjacent to NY State Willard Wildlife Management Area (WMA) which stretches for another 1/4 mile. Hiking trails and wildlife encounters (deer, turkey, coyote, fox, American bald eagle, red tailed hawk), abound on the property and in the adjacent WMA. The private dock stretching out from the front yard has a top deck, which doubles as a two hole putting green, a bottom deck suitable for outdoor dining and sunset gazing, and extends out to a depth that is safe for diving into the cool waters of Seneca Lake. We will meet you when you arrive and provide directions via phone if you get turned around. We will give you a quick tutorial on the cottage so you'll know how everything works. We live on the property, but you'll barely know we're there as we respect your privacy. We're just up the hill and we are available any time for recommendations on things to do in the Finger Lakes, from the best local wineries to taste, restaurants to visit, and events happening during your stay. Peace and quiet. That's what you can expect when you stay at the cottage. The cottage itself is very secluded from the sparsely populated neighborhood. (4 other homes). It is 1 1/2 miles from the nearest county road, which is buffered by a dense woodland and an Amish farm, so there is no road noise. State land borders the northern boundary, and except for an occasional picnicker on the state beach, you'll rarely encounter anyone. The cottage is centered between the cities of Geneva to the north and Watkins Glen to the south. That is where most of the boat traffic resides. You'll feel like you own the whole lake. Although your retreat is private and quiet, you're just a few minutes from live music at many local wineries every weekend night. The college towns of Geneva (Hobart & William Smith Colleges) and Ithaca (Cornell University & Ithaca College) are close by if you're looking for the energy that accompanies a college town. Of course you're only a half hour from world famous Watkins Glen Motor Speedway, which has races just about every weekend during the racing season. The newly opened Del Lago Casino is only 30 minutes away in Tyre. You'll need a car to get around the area. Although 2-wheel drive vehicles negotiate the steep driveway down to the lake with no problem, you might feel more comfortable with 4-wheel or all-wheel drive. 4th of July fireworks on the western side of the lake can be seen for miles from the dock.
