This property is economical enough for you or you + 1, yet large enough to handle up to seven of your most surly traveling companions. If biking is your thing, then bring yours and ride. This home away from home is just over a mile to the city's famous trail system. The space While exploring the area, enjoy all the best this Top 10 U.S. city has to offer. If you need some help, I'll leave you my favorites in "the binder." If you decide to stay in while on your stay, you'll discover that this property is one of the most interesting in the area. If you love to eat what you grow, then feel free to wander the garden and pick what you and your fellow wanderers would like to eat. Of course what can be picked depends on the season. However, you'll find a variety of heirloom tomatoes, mixed greens, onions and shallots, peas and beans, bok choi, several types of berries, rhubarb and asparagus. You'll also find a dozen different herbs on the property. Want to embrace your inner foodie? Head down to the Des Moines Cheese shop to pick up the area's best mozzarella, and add it to freshly picked basil and tomatoes. Dash some balsamic vinegar and enjoy a fresh caprese salad. Before we get to the inside, let's explore the outside a bit more. Put your hiking shoes on to explore the 16-acre forest preserve adjoining the rear of the property, and if you're lucky, you'll find one of Iowa's 36 native edible mushrooms. I've found most of them back there. Do a little googling and fire up the grill. I always have a healthy stack of hardwood ready for the back yard fire pit, so move some chairs around the pit and settle in. Go grab supplies for s'mores or hot dogs - I have the steel cooking sticks. The deck is a great place to hang out and boasts a Weber gas grill for all of your cooking pleasure. Need a little inside time? Brew some tea, coffee or hot chocolate, and relax on the comfy furniture in the living room with a good book from the home's vast library. Add some tunes from the vinyl collection on the homes vintage hifi turntable system and you may not want to leave the recliner. Or... head downstairs. Downstairs is our version of a Cuban lounge - some of our friends call it the "Boom Boom Lounge" - we call it the fun place. Another wifi / tube amp sound system is set with live tropical plants, a natural-wood burning fireplace, a slender 6-chair bronze pub table, an eclectic 4-chair game table, and a comfy leather couch. Plenty of barware and shelves to unpack your adult spirits, wine and beer. There is even a wine fridge and beverage fridge for your use. You may not leave this part of the house. The home has SMART TVs upstairs and downstairs in the living areas and you'll be able to watch regular TV with Youtube TV, or login to the endless apps these smart tvs have these days. The rest of the house features a full kitchen with the gear you'll need to cook, comfy queen beds and two full size bathrooms. , and comfy beds, with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. In two bedroom closets live the full-size blow up mattresses (they'll sleep 1 or 2 pretty easy) and for your couch sleepers, the basement couch is super comfy. The neighborhood is a very safe neighborhood, and the home is great for couples, business travelers, families, and small groups. Guest access I live here when I'm not traveling. There will be three areas locked - the hallway closet, our upstairs bedroom, and the downstairs storage room. Carrie and/or I are usually around at a different property while the home is booked, but if we are traveling, we have several friends and family on call if needed. Other things to note Please follow the property's rules: If you burn in the fire pit please use the hose to douse it before ending your fire session. No fires left ignited. Please clean all dirty dishes by hand or with the dishwasher - dishwasher tabs are under the sink and you can just start it before you leave. COVID19 Statement: My home is certified by TS Certified - we follow a 25-step sanitization and disinfection process every time I prep the home for a guest and after every guest stay. This includes a combination of Selectrocide and Betco Dual pH7Q Dual disinfectant, and the TS Defender Chlorine Dioxide satchel that provides residual protection (you'll see those plastic cartridges around the property). Though TS Certified recommends changing out the TS Defender cartridge every 60-90 days, for everyone's safety, I change it out every 30 days. Every surface is treated with disinfectant (after it's been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized) and I adhere to the EPA recommended dwell time of each project - which is 5 minutes. Basically, this means I allow it to evaporate and go back and wipe any extra residue. We take disinfection very serious and know that means a lot to our guests. Lastly, I take a full day between bookings - there are no same-day back-to-back bookings (where a guest checks out in the morning and a new guest checks in that afternoon). This allows for proper cleaning and for everything to settle (good vibes!) before the next guest.
