Basel Lake behind the property attracts animal lovers as the property and its surroundings are frequently visited by Canadian Geese and Bald Eagles nest in the trees. Also seen are Squirrels, Chip Monks, Blue Jays, Red Cardinals, Robins, and other local Fauna including Deer, Foxes, and sometimes turtles who lay their eggs in the grass by The Chiesa's. This lake is a protected wetlands area which we do not use to swim or fish. In winter we walk across the 8” deep Ice cover to explore the beavers mounds and enjoy the shawangunk mountain range vista. In July there are also Fireflies which are a fun phenomena for children to experience. We as the Hosts live in the upper southern-facing wing of the Chiesa's and are here to share our knowledge of the Area and to provide the best service with an in-home feeling for you all. You can learn about what the Chiesa's Matriarch, Pamela Chiesa, grows in the spring/summer seasons of New York State in her organic garden, use herbs and veges for your desired dishes, and watch as the hosts prepare gourmet food in an open plan kitchen. You can even take a cooking class to learn fantastic Italian recipes so you may take a piece of The Chiesa's with you. Terence Chiesa is a master carpenter who built the Chiesa's house with his bare hands. He is also a Performance Poet that presents his poetry in different character voices. He has performed off Broadway and in the Hudson Valley. Pamela Chiesa is the mama Chef of The Chiesa's. Guests often ask us questions about the area or about the space, or our history of living on the land, and these interactions open up a deeper connection with the B& B. We respect that many people desire a secluded getaway and we respect everyone's private space and time. Other things to note Terence Chiesa is both a master wood craftsman, having built this House with his bare hands, as well as a Performance Poet that presents the Characters that he has created over a decade from all over the world in and around the Hudson Valley. Pamela Chiesa is the mama Chef of The Chiesa's. She prepares the most divine Italian Dishes as well as other recipes of the world that were inspired by her travels overseas.
