If you have a boat the closest launching site is the Tambo River at Johnsonville, a mere 10 minutes away, where you can either stay in the river or motor into the lake system. Take a day and travel up the Great Alpine Road to historic Omeo and the old gold fields. From Omeo you can continue on to Dinner Pain and Mount Hotham or wind your way home via Cassilis. Alternatively a trip to the quaint little town of Buchan and it's famous caves is well worth doing. Note that you need to pre book to take a caves tour.
