Set off on a bike path adventure or start your novel at the writer’s desk. Walk to coffee shops, restaurants & New Seasons Market grocery. Ideal for College visits: drive times, 10 min to Reed, 10 min to Lewis & Clark, 15 min to PSU. Note: PLEASE ASK about weekly or monthly discounts if you're planning extended stay! The space Welcome to your own 750 square ft. cottage, with full kitchen, living and dining space downstairs and master suite (super-comfortable queen platform bed, writer’s desk and reading corner, bathroom with pebble floor shower) upstairs. Relax with a cup of French press coffee and a good book while a jazz record plays or walk through our delightful Sellwood neighborhood to a tea shop in a red caboose. Spot blue herons and cinnamon teal in nearby nature reserve or treasure-hunt in antique shops. You can cook gourmet meals (or just make toast) with a full kitchen including stove, microwave oven and refrigerator. New Seasons grocery store, great restaurants, bakeries and food carts are nearby (10 minute walk.) Let us know if you need to borrow any cooking equipment or other tools (for bike repair, etc.) There is no TV set in the cottage but there are books, games, a record player and WiFi. I hand-built the cottage with just a little help from my friends, finishing it in early 2018. I used green building practices and an efficient heating/cooling system. Natural materials (including the Marmoleum floor upstairs) are emphasized and we’ve opted for minimal use of plastic. The cabinetry and custom furniture were built by me from salvaged “campground pine” which has natural blue streaks. I made the shower floor of Idaho river pebbles. The decor features maps that Edith and I have collected (and in some cases used on our adventures) and original artworks. Our property is verdant and biodiverse with fruit and evergreen trees and is very near the Willamette River and bike/walking paths. It’s 15 minutes from downtown Portland by car and convenient for all Eastside Portland attractions. Guest access The comfortable futon couch downstairs can become a bed for additional guests — ask us if you are interested. Please note: Access to the bathroom is through the upstairs bedroom.
