Hello! An ideal place to spend the weekend outside of Bogota, this property is French-designed, Colombian-inspired, and Californian-managed. It is about 10 years old, but with each passing year we host more and more interesting, international guests. A Colombian caretaker will receive you and support you during your stay, where you will be the only guests on this large, productive farm property close to the river, with stream on property and walking trails. The space Although it’s just an hour and a half away from downtown Bogota, Refugio Tutaza is a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Tucked away behind a citrus grove and overlooking a lush valley, our eco finca is a tranquil space where you can regroup and relax. Facing west down the valley, the 50-mile view from the terrace means you can watch the sunset each evening over the distant misty mountains. The generous outdoor terrace includes a barbecue area and a covered patio ideal for al fresco dining, or just lounging in a hammock. When night falls, you can chill out with a book, listening to the sound of rushing water, or if you’re lucky, watch a tropical storm light up the valley. The plants and animals found in the grounds and the paths winding around the finca provide endless delight for nature lovers. As well as being a haven for all kinds of birds including (what kind of birds?) you might also see frogs, lizards and even the odd crab. The resident tortoises are friendly and sociable - especially if you have a few carrots to spare. The hummingbird feeders dotted around the terrace attract several local species for which this part of the country is famous. Built using sustainable materials, we place an emphasis on living in harmony with our surroundings. Refugio Tutaza consists of three buildings: the main finca has a double bedroom, living room, fully-stocked kitchen and bathroom. A dorm room with a bathroom sleeps eight, and a small self-contained cabin sleeps two and has a small bathroom and a kitchenette. An indoor plunge pool next to the finca is a favourite spot for kids to play on a hot day - the weather is generally warm and pleasant in this part of the country. Eco-villa Refugio Tutaza is an hour’s walk - or a ten minute taxi ride - from the pueblo of San Francisco. It’s out of the way enough to really enjoy the peace and quiet, but conveniently close to the pueblo’s shops and restaurants. A short walk from the finca takes you to the famous Virgin Mary statue, where there are amazing views over the pueblo and the countryside, and there are many walks exploring the surrounding area. The river that runs through the valley has a number of lovely swimming spots to cool off on a warm day. There’s an option to have our cook make all your meals and clean for you.
