The space Property description The home is 14 km south of Mahahual near the intersection of Punta Herradura and the beach road. This road is a dirt road skirting the Caribbean, passing resorts, restaurants and private houses. Additionally there is the 'fast road' easily accessible and allows you to be in town within 15 minutes. We have 2 wonderful restaurants, Hay Hu and Alma Plena, within walking distance. Mahahual is home to the Costa Maya cruise ship port. During the day, when the ships are in, the town becomes alive with cruisers. In the evening it is equally as exciting without the docked ships, which provides you an opportunity to see a very relaxed Mexican fishing village. If you look up "Costa Maya Cruise Ship Port" you can find lots of information about all the recreational activities available in the area. Casa Costa Cristal is located in the very best location of all Costa Maya either North or South of Mahahual. The area is known for its beautiful water. It also is known as Puerto Angel. Casa Costa Cristal is a 2600 s.f. home with palapa covered patios, with 30 meters or about 100 feet of beautiful, white sand beach frontage, facing the majestic Caribbean Sea. Walk out your door and you are 75 feet from the waves. The Meso American Reef System, the second largest in the world, is right off of our beach. This provides access to amazing fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. It is surrounded by tropical and beach plants, including palm trees with coconuts, beautiful white beach lilies, and many other native trees and plants. The west side of the property borders a thick tropical jungle from which a variety of harmless animals wander from. You can walk in the evening while watching a 'light show' of fire flies. Casa Costa Cristal is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath villa on the Caribbean. The home comes equipped with everything you need. Just bring your own food and essentials. It has a fully equipped modern kitchen with double stainless steel refrigerator/freezer, a gas range, and granite counter top with a kitchen island with seating. The walk-in pantry allows plenty of storage for your vacation staples. The kitchen is fully equipped with a selection of cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates, glasses, cups, coffee maker, and a blender for mixing margaritas in the evening. The first floor also has the guest bedroom with easy access to the downstairs bath. This bedroom has a queen sized bed, spacious closet and private porch with covered palapa roof. The bathroom has a travertine stone shower, and travertine slab-stone vanity with storage. The office is located on this level. There is a sleeping banco here that can be used for lounging as well as extra sleeping. The office is equipped with a tzalam desk, chair, and a futon bed as well. The Great Room is large and spacious with 14' ceilings. The room has two ceiling fans, and East/West clerestory windows to provide cooling breezes for those 'warmer' Caribbean days. At one end of the room is a tzalam Dining table with chairs, made by a famous local woodworker who actually lives just a few houses away. Upstairs is the Master Suite. The bedroom has a king size bed. It opens to an awesome private porch, covered with a palapa roof and overlooks the beautiful Caribbean Sea, just 30' away. The bath contains his/her closets with built in drawers. The large shower has travertine stone walls and floor and the double vanity, with plenty of storage has a travertine slab stone top. There are two hammocks and a hammock chair for your leisurely use. Lounge around and read your favorite book or to take a traditional Mexican Siesta Since there is no electrical service along the beach road, electricity at Casa Costa Cristal is provided by a state of the art solar system. The system consists of a bank of roof-top solar panels, inverter/controller and battery banks. There is a back-up generator that provides power in the case of overcast weather. The house electrical is US standard 120v power. The house uses eco-friendly low wattage bulbs, water heater and stove, to conserve as much as possible. We ask your cooperation to conserve electricity at all times. Casa Costa Cristal is equipped with a satellite dish antenna system, providing a clear signal of a variety of SKY TV Mexican channels or you may log into your own streaming services using the living room smart television (note: this is the only tv in the home). There is also an internet wireless connection available for your use. For your convenience there are chaise lounge chairs and other beach chairs available either on the water's edge or on the covered porches of the house. On the property is a casita which houses our wonderful caretakers, Samuel and Veronica, who will attend to your needs and watch the home while you are away. Daily room service is available at an extra charge. We are happy to help you create an itinerary of activities, dining recommendations, etc. for a great stay at Casa Costa Cristal. Guest access Parking is available on site. Other things to note There are two beach dogs who live on property. If would prefer that they be put up during your stay, please let us know. Our caretakers also have chickens (and a rooster) and ducks that they raise. These are essential to their lives as well as many of our local neighbors. So, there will be some noise from the roosters, etc. It is a bit of a way of life here. Some may be bothered. . .and others find it charming and enjoyable! While the Caribbean is beautiful and enjoying it's beauty in the remote area of Mahahual is peaceful and relaxing, there are a few unique challenges as well. Weather patterns can be unpredictable and can impact our power and internet services. Since our internet is broadcast from town, interruptions to the power in town can also impact our internet service (though it does not impact our power supply). This is rare; but it is a risk. There can also be sargasso (sea weed) along the Caribbean coast. Our caretakers make every effort to keep this cleaned. However, over-raking can lead to eroded beaches (as evidenced by some of our neighbors). So, we attempt to create a balance by providing a clean beach area for your enjoyment as well as a path to the water each morning. We do leave a small line at the edge of the beach to help prevent beach erosion. This, too, is unpredictable; there may be none one day and large plumes the next. The summer months (June - September) tend to be the worse. Keep in mind, we are in a very remote, tropical jungle environment. You may encounter all kinds of wildlife - deer, jaguars, gators, raccoons, many types of birds and butterflies, geckos, iguanas, etc. Due to the jungle areas around us, there are also some less pleasant visitors from time to time (mosquitoes, scorpions, tabinos, tarantulas, ants, etc.). We do fumigate on a regular basis; however, there’s always always a possibility you may encounter a bug. We have a can of bug spray near the kitchen sink. Feel free to use it; and we would appreciate you letting us know if you encounter anything.
