The area is ideal for cycling and there are many mountain-bike routes and hiking trails which allow visitors to get out into nature. In the winter months, there are also cross-country skiing trails. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking and not to be missed is the wild Lake Cerknica (25 minutes) and Notranjski Park (17 minutes), with its population of bears, lynx and wolves. Also the Krizna Jama cave complex (10 minutes) with its 22 underground lakes connected by waterways. Visitors explore the caves in kayaks, a magical experience. Ljubljana is a small city packed but with history. It makes the ideal day trip. A tour of its medieval castle is not to be missed. Neither is a visit to the Central Market where you can find fresh local produce and regional delicacies. Ljubljana’s international airport is a 1 hour drive.
