Stunning ocean view condo in Waianae, HI The space On the westernmost part of Oahu (the Leeward side) is the Wai'anae Coast. It stretches 20 miles from the town of Nanakuli to Makaha. At the end of the island is the gorgeous Makua Beach. The Wai'anae Coast is about 30 miles from Honolulu. When driving take H-1 west to Wai'anae and exit onto Farrington Highway, the only road in and out of Wai'anae. You will pass the Disney and Marriot Resorts in Ko Olina, and quickly arrive where the local Hawaiians live. Wai'anae is not upscale. If you prefer a destination outside of the resort tourist bubble then it is a great location for you! Two pools on property. Direct beach front access. Two coin-operated laundry facilities on premises. We live on the mainland in California, so we are not there during your stay. The apartment is self-serve and best suited to the self-sufficient person. I am always available via phone or email before and throughout your stay. I am more than happy to answer questions and help with suggestions. Wai'anae is a lower income (by most US standards) neighborhood on the leeward coast of Oahu. The beauty of Wai'anae, and what I have come to really appreciate is the lack of tourism in the area, and the breathtaking beaches here. You can travel to Waikiki, or Honolulu and essentially feel like you never left the mainland. Swarms of tourists on the beach, and mass retail. Okay to visit, but I love that Wai'anae offers a more authentic experience of the island. You can talk to locals and patronize local establishments, getting a real feel for Hawaii. The beaches are among the best on the island. Ka'ena Point/Yokohama Bay are breathtaking and far less crowded. Makaha is world famous among surfers. There is a bus that runs up and down Farrington Hwy. While not essential, I HIGHLY recommend a car to save time and hassle. Also for day trips to North Shore, etc. Makaha Surfside Condominiums were built in 1974. There are 454 units. This is not a tourist, time share-type resort. There are mostly local Hawaiian families living here. Our unit is ocean front with a nice view of the Pacific. It is 412 square feet with two twin beds in the bedroom and a queen size pull out sofa bed in the living room (the pull out is not comfortable, but fine for a child). There is a window unit air conditioner, and a flat screen t.v. If you are looking for an authentic Hawaiian experience, away from mass tourism and beautiful, un-crowded beaches, Wai'anae is a fine choice. If you are a surfer, then you already know Makaha is paradise. Guest access Two pools on property. Direct beach front access. Two coin-operated laundry facilities on premises. Other things to note Full Discloser: The pullout couch is not super comfortable, but fine for children (or someone who doesn't mind). I love to sleep on it because of the view and the ocean sound. I just pile on blankets to make it comfortable. Registration number TA-011-758-6432-01
