1800's Hayloft on an Elk Ranch
Renovated studio in hayloft in an 1800's limestone barn in the beautiful Flint Hills - only 8 minutes from I70. This chic 70's schoolhouse deco studio gives you a birds eye view of the elk ranch. There is also a 2.2 mile wooded hiking trail, ponds to explore, and other lodging options (an RV site and a 2-story limestone house). We welcome long-term stays! And the hayloft, together with the limestone house and RV site are a great set up for a retreat or reunion, or small wedding. The space The studio is an open floor plan that includes a queen size bed, bathroom with walk-in shower, kitchenette, dining, desk for writing or computer work, and living area. The kitchenette includes a small fridge, toaster, microwave, teapot, coffeepot, plates, cups and silverware, and electronic air fryer oven. There is a BBQ grill at the foot of the stairs. Guests will climb one floor of pretty steep stairs to get inside, where you'll feel transported by views from the windows into farming life, the beautiful Flint Hills and a large herd of Elk where once angus cows stood and before them wild bison and elk roamed. The hayloft is in a century old limestone barn, built by a master stone maker from Austria. The living space was completely renovated in 2023, borrowing inspiration from the old schoolhouse (chalkboard and school photos) as well as the 60s/70s stylish chillax nature theme Franklin Lloyd Wright inspired home on property. Guest access Guests have exclusive use of the hayloft, besides the elk who may utilize the space below you. Guests are free to roam about the property (please be mindful of other guests that may be staying in the 2-story limestone house or on the RV site, or the family living in the ranch style home on property). Guests can also use the 2.2 mile nature trail loop and ponds. Other things to note The Elk herd is very secure behind 8 ft high USDA approved fences and locked gates. Pets are not allowed as animals that have not been raised on an Elk ranch and have natural curiosity would potentially crawl under the fence and be in great danger.
