New River Retreat
We are closed for the season. Hurricane relief volunteers may find lodging by calling the Lansing (NC)Town Hall. Overlook the north fork of the New River from this cozy tiny cabin. From the riverside lawn you can fly fish, kayak, enjoy a campfire, or go on a lovely peaceful walk on a one-lane road along the river. The cabin is a 10-minute drive from the small charming town of Lansing with walking trails, park, and a cultural arts center, where pottery lessons can be arranged. The space This is a ~ 120 sq ft cabin with a view of the North Fork of the New River. It is on stilts on a slope next to a tree giving it a treehouse feel. It has a small kitchen, sitting area, and sleeping area. The 32 sq ft outhouse, with a shower and composting toilet is accessed through the 8’ x 6’ secluded back deck. The kitchen area consists of a sink, 2-burner hot plate, toaster oven, electric kettle, microwave, Keurig coffee maker and mini fridge. There is hot and cold running water. The cabin is ~20 ft from the back corner of our house. You’ll have your own access to our side yard gate on natural stone steps. From the gate, there is a short staircase to the 8’ X 10’ front deck, partially enclosed for privacy. You may encounter us, our small dogs or cats as you pass through the yard. There is a one-lane dirt lane easement just below the cabin that you’ll cross to access the riverfront lawn. A few cars will pass by daily but most of the time the lane is very quiet. The lane continues along the river for about 1 mile before it becomes paved, making for a beautiful peaceful walk. You’ll have unlimited access to the river and riverfront lawn with seating and a firepit. The river is ideal for fly fishing for Brook, Rainbow and Brown Trout. This section of the river is regulated as “wild” public mountain trout water (open year-round, single hook artificial lures only, minimum size 7 inches, daily limit 4 fish). Kayaks and bikes are available for your use. The cabin is a 45-minute float upstream or downstream of two access points. The cabin is 10 minutes from the charming town of Lansing with hiking trails, restaurants, and a cultural arts center. Ask us about pottery workshops! Guest access You have access to the cabin, it’s two small decks and the semi-detached outhouse and the riverfront lawn. You will walk through our side yard to access the cabin and will likely encounter us, our dogs, or our cats.
