Historic Kirkwood House
The home of Iowa's Civil war governor Samuel J. Kirkwood. Built in the 1860's but lovingly renovated, this historic home combines comfort, charm, and convenience. An oasis in the heart of Iowa City, this home is near the downtown area and the University of Iowa. Amenities include covered front porch, tall ceilings, handsome wood floors, large updated kitchen, spacious living areas, back patio and plenty of free parking. Enjoy coffee on the porch or walk to the charming bakery around the corner! The space Three large bedrooms and full bath (heated floors) upstairs. One bedroom at half story - next to bathroom off back stairs. One bedroom and the half bathroom is on the main floor. There are two dedicated working areas in addition to the large kitchen island which seats 8 (looks out to back yard). Study/library in addition to the living room. This home has a large induction cooktop and double ovens. Luggage racks and hangers, iron and ironing board. Lots of natural sunlight, large yard with fruit trees (and birds and sometimes deer). Guest access Guests have access to the entire home except for the large built in hutch in the kitchen, the basement and the garage. Linens are already set out. We also ask that guests enter and leave through newly renovated side entry only and carry bags (especially those with wheels) upon entry. Thanks! Other things to note To help us preserve the original wood floors we ask that guests remove shoes when in doors and carry bags/suit cases (especially those with wheels). Please be good to our neighbors by respecting quiet hours. Remember that the recycling bin is for recycling items only. Thanks!
