The Dutton Farmhouse has 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms and can sleep up to 8 guests. It is located on a scenic Vermont country road bordered by historic New England dry stone walls, maple trees, and the beautiful Scott Farm orchard. You can hike, bike, or snowshoe right out the front door. The view is amazing! While you’ll feel a world away, you’ll be only 5 miles from Interstate 91 and 10 minutes from Brattleboro or Putney. The space The Dutton Farmhouse was meticulously restored to its 1840s period style and offers an enchanting opportunity to step back in time to a slower era. The house is fully furnished, with all linens and a complete kitchen. This spacious house is perfect for retreats and family or friend gatherings in any season. The first floor features, a living room with a cozy gas log stove, parlor, kitchen, pantry, 3 season game room, laundry room, bedroom (queen bed), one full bathroom and a dining room with a colorful mural created by French-Canadian orchard workers who lived in the farmhouse during the growing and harvesting season in years past. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal for 12 except the food (but lots of great restaurants and grocery stores are mere minutes away, and we can even connect you with personal chefs!). The second floor has three more bedrooms (one with a double bed and two with two twin beds in each), plus an additional full bath and one half bath. The house is supplied with high-quality bed and bath linens. Outside, a covered ell features shaded seating and the front yard offers a stone bench and Aderondack chairs. The east-facing panorama is breath-taking, especially at sunrise, with views over our heirloom apple orchard and Mt. Monadnock. Set on 45 acres of land and located just minutes from artsy Brattleboro, there's something for everyone while staying in this house. Hike, bike, swim, shop, golf, take in a museum, see a movie, or dine in one of the many local restaurants. In the winter, snowshoe right out the front door with snowshoes provided. And the foliage cannot be beat in the fall! Guest access You will have complete access to the house and grounds. We invite you to check out the nearby Scott Farm Market and Pippins Cafe with fresh fruits and Vermont specialty products (open seasonally mid August through mid November). While you’re at the Scott Farm, don’t miss the Stone Park, an incredible outdoor art park created with stacked dry (mortarless) stone, maintained by The Stone Trust nonprofit. The country road is a favorite for local walkers and good for biking or mountain biking, but a car is the best method for getting around the region. Check in is 4pm or later and check out is by 10 am. The week before your arrival you will receive details to get the key. Other things to note Your stay does good in the world and supports the continued preservation of this nationally significant historic property through the work of the nonprofit Landmark Trust USA, who restored the property according to the most rigorous national historic preservation standards and continues to own and manage the home today. Both the Dutton Farmhouse and surrounding Scott Farm are on the National Register of Historic Places. Locally you can enjoy festivals and fairs, hiking, biking or paddling on one of its many rivers, lakes, or ponds. The town is alive with local artists, musicians, crafts people, museums, and galleries. Brattleboro is also a destination for beer lovers! Enjoy a pint of local craft beer in a local microbrewery and bring home a growler or two. Don’t forget Scott Farm’s very own hard cider! Take a class at the New England Center for Circus Arts. The New England Youth Theatre has plays and performances all year long. If you love music, enjoy a show at The Stone Church, Vermont Jazz Center, a concert or movie at the historic Latchis Theatre, or see the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. The Brattleboro Farmers Market draws people from all over New England for its incredible selection of local crafts, food, wine, and plants. The first Friday of every month is Gallery Walk, where locals visit downtown stores that display art, live music, and food sampling.
