Private Cottage at Water's Edge
Charming cottage just steps from the water in Midcoast Maine, less than 20 minutes from Camden and Rockland. One bedroom, one bath in a serene, private setting bordering a large freshwater pond -- perfect for swimming, kayaking, fishing, or lounging in the waterside hammock and unplugging from life's cares. Bright, sunny, and stylishly furnished, the cottage includes a full kitchen, waterside dining room and sleep sofa. One-week minimum stay required, Saturday to Saturday. The space You enter the house through a three-season sunroom with a dining table and sitting area; the sofa folds out into an extra bed. The main living area has a vaulted ceiling with a living room overlooking the water and a full kitchen. There's a private bedroom with a queen-size bed. The small sitting area outside the bedroom includes a TV, DVD player and VCR, along with a large collection of movies. Next to it is a full bathroom. The ample yard is very private, with neighboring houses visible through the trees but not too close. There's a picnic table, Adirondack chairs, hammock and a very modest grill. In the storage shed you'll find a bicycle, kayak, oars, and air mattresses for floating on the water. The pond is quite large (most people would consider it a lake), but we're in a shallow part of it, so there are no powerboats or jet skis, which keeps things quiet. Since the house is about six feet from the water's edge, you can dash outside and jump in anytime day or night. Being a pond in Maine, the bottom is silty, not sandy, which can be an adjustment for some. Guest access The whole house is yours during your stay. Other things to note The water in the house comes directly from the pond. It is satisfactory for bathing and washing dishes, but it is not potable. Jugs of spring water and bottled water are provided for drinking and brushing your teeth. Sorry, there is no Wi-Fi at the house. There is good AT&T and Consumer Cellular reception at the house, but Verizon customers have difficulty getting a signal. If you need Wi-Fi, consider using your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, or borrow a mobile hotspot from your local library (many libraries offer them). Wi-Fi is also available from inside or outside the Hope library, five miles away.
