You will be close to everything when you stay at this centrally-located home in Charleston’s Luna Park Historic District. Americana Cottage was built in 1920 at the cornerstone of the once renowned Luna Amusement Park. It boasts antique furnishings, cozy decor and a 2 level deck with fire pit. 2 blocks from the river. Within 10 minutes of all major hospitals, shopping, dining and entertainment, Americana Cottage is perfect for families, travel nurses and business travelers. A very unique stay! The space Once nestled at the edge of Luna Amusement Park, Americana Cottage pre-dates the 95 homes that eventually occupied the park’s footprint. The home is currently in the application process of being added to the historic register. Being over 100 years old, she is definitely creaky and quirky but still has a lot of life left within her historic walls. The large, vintage game-themed Gathering Room is tucked in between the whimsical kitchen and the office, suitably named “The Crooked Room”. The Gathering Room is the heart of the home. With oversized chairs, cozy decor and dining for 6, it invites you to relax and unwind surrounded by reminders of a more simple time. A smallway off of the Gathering Room leads to a modest bathroom straight ahead. The “Raggedy Room” with full sized bed, wardrobe, vanity and chair, surrounded by vintage rag dolls is to the left and the “Old Glory Suite” to the right. Old Glory features a queen sized bed and built in writer’s desk in the main room and an oversized dresser and chest of drawers, reading nook and 7’ clothing storage area in the adjacent dressing parlor. The large laundry room with super capacity digital washer is off of the kitchen. Guests are always fooled by the cottage’s small exterior appearance when they enter to large, open spaces, high ceilings and a one level floor plan that encourages togetherness but lends itself to privacy and personal space when required. Guest access Guests have full, exclusive access to the entire cottage. The office (Crooked Room) has a private entrance facing street parking a few steps away. The guest entrance and gated off-street parking are accessible via an unnamed private alleyway. There is a basement/cellar, only accessed from the outside which the hostess uses for cleaning, maintenance and essential supplies. Guests do not have access to this area but there is no access to the cottage from this area so your privacy is protected and guaranteed. Other things to note Americana Cottage is a raised single level home, meaning although the living space is all on one level, there are several exterior stairs leading to the entrance. The guest entrance has 2 steps from the driveway to the lower tier of the deck and 5 more to the upper tier which is at living area level. The street entrance has 5 stairs leading directly to the door. There is no stoop or landing. All stairs have handrails. Please keep this in mind when making the decision to book the cottage.
