This waterfront eco-friendly log home, located in an Audubon Important Bird Area and NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat, comfortably accommodates 6 guests. Perched on a bluff overlooking two of Maine's beautiful tidal rivers, it’s home to bald eagles, osprey, and harbor seals and boasts a dazzling night sky and dynamic water views. Salt River Cottage is a proud signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. The space This 2,100 square-foot waterfront cottage, ten minutes from Machias, offers all the comforts of home. This home has three bedrooms, one in the loft and two on the lower level, each with a queen bed. The lower level bedrooms have water views; the loft has a skylight view of the stars and a separate space for reading, yoga or meditation. There are two small, but full, bathrooms each with sink, shower and tub: one on the main floor, one the lower level. The main entrance to this net-metered solar house is a short flight of steps from a front patio. A foyer for your shoes and coats opens to the remodeled kitchen featuring microwave, stove, oven, dishwasher, farm sink, granite countertops, half-wall with bar stools that look out on the water, and many accessories including a Nutribullet, toaster, lobster pot, Bonsenkitchen coffee maker, percolator coffee maker, tea kettle and a full set of cookware, dinnerware, and utensils. In front of the half-wall is a breakfast nook with seating for two and some of the best views from the house. You'll dine at the six-top rustic timber dining table (use deck tables to expand) over radiant floor heating, with more windows overlooking those same amazing views. On the rare days when it's needed, there is a wall-mounted unit for cooling and additional heating. On the far end of this open concept vaulted ceiling dining room is a wood stove, windows to view the sunset, and relaxing seating for two. Or you can choose to nestle into the reading nook nearby. Enjoy the full length deck for unimpeded photography and sound of the property's abundant wildlife, with binoculars and spotting scope provided (for house use only). Download Cornell Lab’s Merlin app to identify the numerous bird species by sound or sight. The Cottage is WiFi-enabled, so you can connect for work or pleasure. You can also connect to the WiFi speakers for stereo sound and Salt River Cottage's Spotify playlists. For more traditional entertainment, retreat to the adjacent family room with sofa (which converts to a sofa bed) and lounge chair, for board games, guitar, another water view, or to log in to your streaming service to watch your favorite shows on the 32" flatscreen TV. In addition to the bedrooms on the lower level, you'll find a laundry room with washer/dryer, and our common room in which we're proud to share a one-of-a-kind photographic exhibition of Machias Bay petroglyphs, rock art made by the Wabanaki people between 400 and 3,000 years ago. You can exit this room through an exterior door, which leads to the Cottage's shoreline path, a short walk (steep in places, so please tread carefully) down to the tidal river waterfront. Also important to note for history buffs: In 1775 one of the 1st naval battles of the American Revolution unfolded off our shoreline. Guest access The entire home and 5 waterfront acres (basically everything to the west and north of the cul de sac and house, to the shore in both directions) Other things to note Salt River Cottage is proud to be a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. As a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration, we commit to deliver plans aligned with the pathways to cut tourism emissions in half over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050. Salt River Cottage commits to: Support the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050; Deliver climate action plans within 12 months from becoming a signatory (or updating existing plans), and begin implementing them; Align plans with the five pathways of the Declaration (Measure, Decarbonize, Regenerate, Collaborate, Finance) to accelerate and co-ordinate climate action in tourism; Report publicly on an annual basis on progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as on actions being taken; Work in a collaborative spirit, sharing good practices and solutions, and disseminating information to encourage additional organizations to become signatories and supporting one another to reach targets as quickly as possible.
