Later the town profited from potato production, shoe manufacturing, and a state-run hospital. By 1937, Anoka became nationally recognized as a Halloween destination when 12-year-old Harold Blair won a trip to Washington D.C., and brought with him a sweater sewn with an Anoka the Halloween patch on it and a proclamation that named Anoka as the Halloween Capital of the World. It was also one of the first cities in the United States to put on a Halloween celebration that discourages people from playing tricks or causing trouble. If you love Halloween and all the creepiness that goes along with it. You will want to go on one of the many Guided Cemetery Tours or Ghost Tours throughout the historical town. Since Anoka is a short 30-minute drive from US Bank Stadium, Target Field and the Excel Energy Center where you can go see the Twins, Wild, Vikings play, or go see one of your favorite singers at one of the many concerts they host.
