This cozy home is on a private, secluded lot, yet close to many of the Adirondack area attractions making it an ideal location for your winter getaway in the Adirondacks. The Ausable Acres community is located in Jay, NY and is not far from several popular local destinations. Whiteface Mountain, the “greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies” is a short drive away. Lake Placid isn’t much farther and has great shopping and dining in addition to all of the Olympic history from hosting twice, including in 1980 for the Miracle on Ice victory. The property is also centrally located between Santa’s Workshop, the Covered Bridge in Jay, High Falls Gorge, Ausable Chasm & Mt. Von Hoevenberg. The main floor consists of a well-stocked kitchen (pots, pans, silverware, cooking utensils, drinking glasses, plates, mugs, wine glasses, bakeware, etc.) with a dishwasher and a brand new fridge, an open living room with a 70-inch 4K TV, a sunroom with a small dinette as well as some rocking chairs and a small sofa, a king bedroom with a TV and a full bathroom. The 2nd floor was completely remodeled this year with brand new flooring in both bedrooms (queen bed with a TV in the first and a queen over queen bunk in the second) along with a fully remodeled bathroom with a massive walk-in shower and jack & jill sinks. Washer/dryer & and all-in-one gym equipment are in the basement. As we are a member of the Ausable Acres Property Owner's Association, you will have access to cross-country skiing/snowshoeing trails right within the neighborhood. You will also find ample opportunities to do winter hiking, ice fishing, snowmobiling, dog sled rides and more in the surrounding area. We love this home and are excited to share it with others to experience everything it has to offer! Guest access Guests will have access to the entire house and property including private access to the Ausable River. The detached garage is unavailable at the moment, but we hope to have the inside modified and available for parking prior to the start of winter (though the driveway is cleared whenever it snows). Other things to note We request a rental agreement to be signed shortly after booking. The agreement is a simple document that covers the terms of the stay along with a basic set of house rules. In a nutshell, we just ask you to treat our home with respect and care. We understand there is wear and tear and accidents happen - we just want to ensure our basic requirements are communicated and agreed to. The house comes with encased pillows, sheets with encased mattresses, bath towels and hand towels for each guest as well as a starter pack of supplies that includes paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, dish soap, K cups for the Keurig and more. For groceries, a small shop called The Little Market is located in Wilmington (on the route home from Lake Placid or Whiteface) and a Tops Markets is located in Ausable Forks. There is no daily housekeeping service. Please be aware that the last mile of the trip is on a hard but unpaved road surface. These roads are plowed in the winter and the cleanup is well done - that being said it's a safer bet to have an AWD/4WD vehicle in the winter months. Firewood can be purchased at many roadside stands for $4 or $5 a bundle. We've received reports that a lot of the wood from these stands has been wet so it might be worth stopping at one of the Stewart's Shops in the surrounding towns on your way in (there's on in Lake Placid, Keene & Ausable Forks). The wood-burning stove is currently not safe to use according to our last inspection. We are trying to find a chimney sweep company to bring it back to working order but haven't been able to given the time of year.
