Relax with the whole family at our Shady Oaks Cottage, which is located on 4-acres of land, includes a shared-use pool & spa (see notes on these) 2 playgrounds and lots of land for kids & dogs to play! We love spending long weekends out here visiting wineries and breweries, exploring local swimming holes, actually seeing the stars at night, and enjoying the quiet. Because we love this property and the hill country so much, we wanted to let others get a sample of it as well! The space The home includes 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one with a tub for soaks or kid baths), a living room and kitchenette. The kitchenette features a full size fridge & freezer, a Keurig (with pods supplied), microwave, toaster-oven/air-fryer, portable induction cooktop surface, kettle, and blender. Also available for your cooking needs is a propane grill on the front patio. The Shady Oaks Cottage is located in a private neighborhood off a dirt road, so your car will get a little dusty. We're located within a 7 minute drive to The Shady Llama, and a little over 10 minutes to Wimberley Square. We're also nearby to numerous hill country swimming holes, wedding venues, wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Guest access Guests will have exclusive access to the guest house, and shared access to: a large 4 acre yard and a pool & spa shared with the main house. Next to the guest house is a fire pit area exclusively for use of guest house residents. The fire pit is wood burning. Occasionally, we have wood available, but as a general matter, please plan to provide your own fire wood. The yard includes large shady oak trees, picnic tables, a wooden playground, and a metal jungle gym. The lot is completely fenced in. The pool & spa are not fenced -- if you have children who cannot swim, please ensure that you are supervising your children! Access to the spa's heating function is currently available only on request (message us via the app before you'd like to use and we'll be happy to turn it on -- in warmer weather it can take about 20 minutes to heat up, while in cooler weather it can take closer to an hour). The pool itself is heated using a heat pump during reasonable weather. If temperatures are expected to remain below 70 for an extended period of time, we generally will not keep the pool heated. When heated, the pool is generally kept above 85 degrees. While we work hard to keep the pool clean and available for guest use, occasionally events outside of our control cause the pool to become unsafe to swim in -- especially after certain weather events like heavy rain or winds. These events sometimes require cleaning and treatment that can put the pool out of service until it is safe again. We cannot provide any guarantees that the pool will be useable during your stay, but will make every reasonable effort to keep it useable for your stay! To date, we have never had to make the pool unavailable for guest use, and strive to keep it that way. Other things to note Our cottage is the ideal space for a family with kids looking to get away from the city, a group of friends in town for a wedding, or a girls weekend. Our family and children also spend time at the main house nearby. This is not the right place for you if you're looking to throw a large party. Our guests will always have the privacy of the cottage and lots of space to spread out. We will be on the property in our home once in a while, so you may find us or our children relaxing on the property. POOL NOTES: 1) The pool and spa are unfenced. If you have children, please be aware of this hazard when you book, and make sure you maintain an eye on your children when they play outside. 2) The pool and spa are available for guest use and are shared use with the main house! The spa's heating function right now is only operable by an app on the owners' phone, so if you'd like to utilize that feature, just message us, and we'll turn it on. The spa's heating function is on a 2.5 hour timer, so don't be alarmed if it turns off. Guests are responsible for bringing pool towels for use. Please do not use house towels for pool use. The pool itself is heated during reasonable weather (loosely defined as during periods when daytime highs are generally 70 or above).
