Quiet cabin in the woods! The cabin has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and an amazing sunroom for soaking in the 300 plus days of sun per year. As you enjoy the tranquility of National Forest just barely out the front door, know that this cabin is still a short drive from Leadville, or Buena Vista for your city fix. The Twin Lakes and the village of Twin Lakes are just a quick drive over the hill! The Mt Elbert Forebay, Turquoise Lake, and Ski Cooper are also nearby. Lake County STR License # 2025-051 The space The Rex Resort is nestled on almost one acre in the pines near Twin Lakes. From the yard, feel free to relax on the swing and take in the views of Colorado's second highest peak in Mt. Massive. In the summer months, there is a horseshoe pit in the front yard area. The large deck, with chairs and a large table is great in the summer evenings to take in the views of the Mosquito Range to the east. Feel free to use the gas grill on the deck for a nice BBQ! A walk out the front door and up to the edge of the drive provides a picturesque view of Mt Elbert, Colorado's highest peak. No matter the season, the stars can be seen for miles. The Rex Resort is the place to unplug, unwind, and enjoy all that the Rockies have to offer! The house is located close to 9,600 feet high up in the Rockies! Please consider the effects that this elevation can have, especially when coming from closer to sea level. Drinking plenty of water is a MUST! Also, when enjoying the outdoors remember that frequent breaks are important. As mentioned above, the house is close to many things that make this area a great place to visit. Here are some other things to do while in the area. In the winter: Snowshoe out the front door and into the National Forest. If you snowshoe just over the ridge to the south, you get a great view of the Twin Lakes. Snowshoe about a mile west and a great view of the Mt. Elbert Forebay awaits! Many times, snowmobiles have already packed a trail for you, therefore making the trip much easier. There are a few places in Leadville that rent snowshoes as well. Ice fishing is also very popular in the winter months and is permitted on the Twin Lakes as well as on Turquoise Lake and the Mt. Elbert Forebay. If you have never fished before, Leadville offers guides and rental equipment. Snowmobiles are also allowed to roam much of the National Forest. There are guides and tours available throughout the area as well. Please check with the Leadville Ranger Station or online for all rules and regulations regarding snowmobiling in the National Forest. In Leadville, there is a tubing hill. It is right along US24 just north of the airport. Please note that climbing up the hill is self-powered. Monarch Ski Area a little over an hour south and Copper Mountain 45 minutes to the north both have tubing hills as well as lift to pull you up the hill! Leadville also offers an outdoor ice rink for skating. There are also curling matches at the rink from time to time. See the City of Leadville's website for additional information. If cross country skiing is your thing (or snowshoeing on set, groomed track), then head over to America's Highest Golf Course to spend the day. Mt Massive Golf Course offers miles of groomed trails. There is a modest trail fee that helps pay for maintenance of the trails. Snacks and rentals are also available. Dogs are also welcome as long as they are leashed. The Mineral Belt Trail that encompasses the City of Leadville also has set track for skiing and snowshoeing. There is no charge to use the Mineral Belt Trail Rather downhill ski? Ski Cooper is the closest ski area to the house. It is about a 30–40-minute drive on dry roads on the top of Tennessee Pass. It is a very low-key no-frills mountain. Monarch Mountain is also a low-key no-frills mountain about 1.5 hours south of the house. You travel through the towns of Buena Vista and Salida on the way. Great places for pit stops! Looking for more of a resort type atmosphere? Copper Mountain is the place for that. Back over Fremont Pass next to I-70, it is a great mountain. About 45 minutes on dry roads. Have an Epic Pass? Vail and Beaver Creek are a little over an hour away. Breckenridge and Keystone are about 1.5 hours. In the summer: As mentioned before, there are a multitude of lakes surrounding our house. Twin Lakes is certainly the closest. The east lake has a great spot that is perfect for paddleboarding. Check out Twin Lakes SUP and Cycle for all the gear you need. Fishing is also permitted on Twin Lakes as are motorboats. The Mt Elbert Forebay and Turquoise Lake are north of the house, and Clear Creek Reservoir is a short drive south. Looking for a base camp for a hiking adventure? The Rex Resort is the PERFECT spot! Mount Elbert is the highest peak in Colorado, and the south trailhead is less than a 15-minute drive from the house! The trailheads for Mt Massive, Colorado’s second highest peak are about 30 minutes. Also nearby is La Plata Peak, (Colorado’s fifth highest) as well as Huron Peak and the Collegiate Peaks! 14’ers not your thing? There are many other great trails nearby including the Colorado Trail as well as the Continental Divide Trail which travels over 3,100 miles! When you are down in the village of Twin Lakes at the General Store, you might just run into someone who is hiking the whole thing! There is also a trail that goes all the way around the Twin Lakes. It passes next to Dexter Cabin and the Interlaken Hotel on the south side of the lake. Neat pieces of history that sometimes are open for tours. Is golf your thing? Then check out America’s Highest, Mt Massive! There is a 9-hole golf course as well as a 9-hole disc golf course. The Leadville Campus of Colorado Mountain College also has a free 18-hole disc course. It is a great course amongst the trees on their campus. Not a skier or much of an outdoor person? Do not worry, there is plenty for you as well. Leadville has many museums dedicated to local history. Camp Hale is near Tennessee Pass to learn about the history of the 10th Mountain Division. The National Mining Museum is in the City of Leadville. Both Leadville and Buena Vista have quaint Main Streets with many shops and restaurants. Vail and Breckenridge are always a must for a first timer and returning guests alike! There are many, many different shops and things to see in both towns. Also, Silverthorne offers an outlet mall for all the bargain shoppers! Looking for a beautiful drive? In the summer, Aspen is over Independence Pass about 1.5 hours away. The drive will take you up to 12,095 feet with absolutely stunning views in all directions! As you can see, opportunities abound for everyone at The Rex Resort! Won't you join us and find out where your favorite spot is? Guest access Pets may be allowed with prior approval from Host. An additional non-refundable pet fee of $150 per pet or $20/day per pet (whichever is more) will apply to your reservation. Other things to note Please remember that the house does not have satellite or any type of TV service. It has limited low speed internet. When you book a stay at The Rex Resort, you are booking a time to unplug. There are many card and board games in the TV stand in the living and sunroom. There are also many book selections available and a few I recommend to familiarize yourself with the area. If you are interested in watching TV, all the major cell carriers provide good service and you can hotspot your phone to the TV. You can also use your own login to watch any app's that you subscribe to. The internet will have no problem with streaming services. The internet also does fine if you need to work from the house. I have been on video calls with no issues. If you have multiple people using the internet and have video calls going, it may slow down depending on the day and time you are using it.
