The Sargent room is a multi-bed room (1 full and 2 twin beds) that makes it a perfect room for families and reunions. The room was named for the Sargent Family, long-term occupants and owners of the Clark Currier House. Sam Sargent was the founder of the local art association in Newburyport. His picture can be seen on the outside of the Newburyport Art Association building downtown. His Sargent School of Painting was located in the old carriage house on the property. That history is reflected in the rich variety of original buildings that have survived for more than 300 years since the first Europeans settled on the banks of the Merrimack River. A drive along High Street, the main road through Newburyport’s residential section, is like a survey course in American architecture.
