The house is exceptionally well-equipped and stocked. The birds and bunnies adore this yard! We recently added electricity to the gazebo including a lovely pendant light on the interior and white lights on the exterior. You will fall in love with our stunning Hunter green enameled cast iron gas fireplace, with its glass front and sides through which you can watch the dancing flames. The sparkling jewel box vibe makes the already cozy ambience extremely warm and inviting, with majorly Hygge feels, and is extremely safe and marvelously easy to use! + A jumbo 65-inch Smart TV with glorious HD and a sweet sound bar. This has been a smash hit with our Gamer guests and Movie and Sports fans. Back-up power is vital to require in your vacation rental selection, as a power failure can make or break your trip, especially in the coldest and hottest months, and lack of connectivity could impact your ability to work from home. Here you can Work-Play-Relax with confidence! Truly, this house is set up for living quite comfortably. We admire the abundant hip and trendy rentals, but prefer a more user friendly set up full of utility, but still genteel and homey. The house’s “Vintage in the Forest” decor has a clean and stylish contemporary feeling, exuding warmth and homeyness, with touches of retro flair. Though a mid century charmer from 1959, the house was thoughtfully renovated later on, with the addition of enormous arched picture windows, some high vaulted ceilings, and a contemporary kitchen. Shimmering natural lght fills the house, adding to its airy, cheerful nature. You will love the sparkling original blonde oak hard wood floors running throughout the entire house, and the mountain views enjoyed from most windows. This is an extraordinarily comfortable and welcoming home full of good vibes and harmony that make it easy to take it easy! Wanna bring your furry monster? Good news, you are welcome to bring up your well-behaved dog of up to 50 pounds, at no additional cost. Please send details of breed, weight and age upon booking. Limit of ONE at no extra fee, but you are welcome to inquire about bringing one additional dog at a nominal added fee. We do not host other types of pets. Doggie guests tend to love walks in the neighborhood, or a run in the nearby dog park. We are also close to a marvelous rail trail system that is dog friendly. You will find your surroundings clean and well maintained by the fantastic crew, all locally sourced. We set ourselves apart with superior quality control, along with fun little surprises. We are registered with the Town of Shandaken for Short Term Rentals as license # 2023-STR-022 and encourage your booking with a legal, licensed operator with a local emergency contact. HIKERS: You will be in paradise here. Some of the finest trails in the Catskills close by include Slide Mountain, Giant Ledge, Pantherkill, Devils Path, Mt. Tremper, Spruceton, Diamond Notch, Overlook, and so many more. Phoenicia is home to an easy to moderate short hike, the Tanbark Trail, that leads to an idyllic vista of our town. More experienced hikers may wish to check out the the local trailhead for the famed Long Path, a mere ten minute walk from the Hideaway, and the famed hiking trails of nearby Woodland Valley just a ten minute drive. Easier walking trails are also around, including the magical Ashokan Rail Trail, with its Boiceville trailhead just ten minutes from the house. ANGLERS: The Esopus Creek is a world-famous trout creek and is just across the street from us. A two-minute walk will take you the bridge and easy public access. There are a great many other choice spots in the creek, the fun is in finding your own favorite. The fly fishing is much lauded here. The Esopus is well known for rainbow trout in the spring and its native brown trout in the fall. There’s even a fly fishing tournament every spring (visit the Phoenicia Supermarket for details). Newbies, licensed guides are around the area to help you out as well. Inquire at the visitors center in Mt. Tremper. Insiders tip: Don’t miss the anglers parlor at the Phoenicia Library, with vast local info and lore on display. SKIERS: Hunter Mountain, Belleayre, and Plattekill ski areas are all short drives from the house, and Windham isn't that much further. Lots of options around too for snow boarding, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and winter hiking. And - our convenient location on a town maintained street with good proximity to Route 28 will insure your ease of getting out on snow days! OTHER NEARBY RECREATIONAL OPTIONS: You can walk just two minutes from the house to the mighty Esopus creek, where you will find easy access for swimming, wading and fishing. The super fun Rail Explorers rail bike attraction is also a stone's throw from the house, advance reservations strongly recommended. Wanna BEACH it? Stunning Belleayre Beach aka Pine Hill Lake is just 15 minutes away, and is very family friendly with a lifeguard, boat rentals, concessions, picnic tables, and much more! Two other nearby lakes of note are North South Lake and Lake Colgate. For the more intrepid types, there is great joy in discovery of our area swimming holes and water falls, which so abundantly dot the Catskills. And, for anyone craving an indoor swim in an Olympic sized pool and use of a terrific gym, the area has an excellent rec center with day passes available! HEY FOODIES: If you're coming up to check out the area's exploding food scene, the house is central to some of the best dining in the Catskill Park region including the Peekamoose, Foxfire House, the Pines, Oliver’s, the Deer Mountain Inn, the Shandaken Inn, Silvia, Good Night, Cucina, Urban Cowboy Lodge, the Prospect at Scribners, the Phoenician, the Red Onion, and many more. We are also central to renowned destination dining spots such as Brushland Eating House, Casa Susanna and Inness. One of the most famous diners in America is a few minutes away too - the marvelous Phoenicia Diner. It’s as good as they say. Another favorite breakfast, lunch and coffee spot right in Phoenicia is Bettina, an adorable farm-to-table spot with the best cortados and pastries in town, and a divine front porch with views. Phoenicia’s delightful farmers market is held on Sundays. It is a true delight, often featuring live music. Midweek visitors can hop over to Woodstock’s farmers market, held on Wednesdays. And if you’d care to work from a welcoming cafe, Bread Alone is the place, a carbon neutral local hotspot for work and meeting up with friends that is bright, airy, and utterly delicious. Another terrific coffee house is Fellow in Hunter, housed in a beautiful, lovingly restored Victorian, a former Odd Fellows Hall! Also in the area, farms you can visit that have dining and bars on site. There’s plenty of pick your own places too, for apples, cherries, blueberries, peaches, flowers, pumpkins, and much more! For the intrepid sorts, a day trip to the restaurants at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) is a tasty and memorable option where you can also walk the same hallowed halls as Anthony Bourdain! HEY BEER LOVERS: Two CRAFT BREWERIES are also close by, Woodstock Brewing and West Kill Brewery. If you're interested in checking out the local spirits scene, outstanding local vodka and cider distilleries are not too far afield either. ARTS SCENE: Make sure to check out our outstanding local THEATER, the Phoenicia Playhouse, and our fantastic ART GALLERIES, often the sites of fun openings. There are countless other opportunities for culture in the region. We have great ROCK VENUES too, from little dives to the iconic Bearsville Theater and the Levon Helm Midnight Ramble, known to us locals as The Barn. Midweek guests won’t want to miss the weekly Weds. music nights at The Pines, a great local spot minutes from the Hideaway. WEDDING GUESTS: The Hideaway is less than ten minutes to the Emerson, Foxfire House, and Mt. Tremper Arts, and is also convenient to the Full Moon Resort and many of the other area popular wedding sites. SOUL NOURISHMENT: Menla and the Zen Mountain Monastery are nearby, along with the Emerson Resort and Spa and other excellent spots for yoga, acupuncture, massage or a pampering filled spa day, Your host is happy to make personal recommendations upon request. SHOPPING AND SIGHTSEEING: Phoenicia and its neighboring towns have excellent SHOPS and ATTRACTIONS, but for more you can take day trips to the other happening towns in the Catskill and Hudson Valley regions too where there is no shortage of museums, working farms, historic homes including the FDR and Vanderbilt estates, and so much more. Festivals of all kinds are abundant here, along with parades and other reverie. We are also just a 20-minute drive to the most famous small town in America, Woodstock, with its quaint village green and vibrant live music scene. If all of this isn't enough, FARM STANDS and ANTIQUE STORES can be found dotting Route 28, along with no shortage of fab YARD SALES from spring through fall. Our delectable small town FARMERS MARKETS are held year round. The community here is also fantastic and full of fine, interesting people who have been drawn to our inspiring wild and rugged beauty. White Guest access Enjoy the good life in this spacious vintage cottage featuring one-level living! You will have full access to the entirety of the house and property during your stay! - Open concept floor-plan that flows from the generous living room to the kitchen and dining area. - Primary bedroom with comfy queen sized bed, large dresser and a 43-inch HD smart TV, and the second bedroom has a comfy full sized bed, and a large closet for your use, along with a 32-inch HD smart TV. -A queen size air mattress is also available for use in the living room, by advance special arrangement and request only. -The living room with its huge sectional with room for everyone has a large-screen 65 inch smart TV. -Well stocked kitchen and spacious dining room. There is also a cute desk off to one side of the dining room for anyone wishing to do some work from home. Best of all perhaps, it is here you will find our delightful fireplace and record player and collection! - Recently renovated bathroom with excellent water pressure! A very cheerful space! - Private and nicely landscaped yard with grill, chairs, tables, garden, fire pit, Solo Stove, and gazebo for al fresco dining -You'll also have access to the washer and dryer, located in the basement. - Room for three cars in the driveway For guests with any mobility issues, please note that the few stairs needed to access the house are not steep and have a hand rail. To enter the house, there are two wide steps that lead to a landing where the coat closet is. Then there are three more that lead into the living space. The only other steps in the house go to the basement and only needed if you are staying long enough for laundry need. No steps are needed to access the bedrooms or bathroom. This is classic mid-century single level living at its finest!
