Originally established and built in the 1830's, the building was initially constructed for use by the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Company for storage of its equipment as they worked to build the canal and its lock system. Shortly thereafter it was renovated into a stable where horses or mules drawing the barges were kept below while the drivers lived above. After there was no need for mules and horses, the house was turned into a tavern. While the building has been newly renovated on the inside to reflect modern culture with its straight lines and white interior, some of its exterior is still original like the railroad posts holding the porch and roof together. Attention: The Georgetown House is proud to enforce a smoke free environment in all of its rooms and common areas. There is a significant fee of $500 for customers who violate this policy, in order to recover the room to its original smoke-free condition. We appreciate your compliance to this policy.  Guest access Lock#10, Porch and Kitchen area Other things to note Here at the Georgetown House, we are committed to offering an affordable lodging option in the heart of the city to our budget-savvy customers.
