Black Mountain Lodge, Montana at its best!
Enjoy log cabin comfort and rustic elegance in the privacy of your own mountain meadow (50 acres near Helena, Montana, surrounded by Nat'l Forest). The space Thank you for your interest in Black Mountain Lodge! We are certain the magic of this historic space will create long lasting memories. We offer the option to expand your accommodations for an extra charge with the addition of the Chalet . This historic property was originally a lucrative mining claim during the Gold Rush. The tailings from multiple mining claims can be found in the nearby hills. You might get lucky yourself but don't be tricked by the glittering Fool's Gold that laces the stream! In the early 1900s it became Primrose Farm, a dairy providing fresh milk to nearby Helena. Our family acquired the property in 1941 and we are now heading into our fourth generation as stewards of this remarkable piece of Montana. During the day take in the panoramic view from the large screened porch. Or hike miles of spectacular trails right from the front door. Wildlife abounds in our mountain meadow and you will spot animals large and small--moose, deer, elk, coyotes, even bear--from both the porch and trail. ACCOMMODATIONS The spacious Main Lodge with its sleeping porch and four private sleeping cabins easily accommodate up to 13 guests. A gurgling mountain stream winds its way between the Lodge and cabins lulling you to sleep at night. If you are looking to expand accommodations for up to 3 people, a fully equipped Chalet at $150 per night is available. The Chalet is a short walking or driving distance from the Lodge and has its own parking and WIFI. This addition can be added for a minimum of one night or be available for your entire stay. Please contact the host for information. The Main Lodge sleeping porch has two twin beds. The four sleeping cabins include a king size bed, a four person bunk house, a lower cabin with a full size bed and twin bed and a creek side cabin with a full bed and futon. A full bathroom is located in the Main Lodge and a multi-user Bath House serves the sleeping cabins. The Lodge kitchen (and Chalet kitchen if applied to your reservation) are provisioned with staples such as basic spices, coffee filters and cleaning supplies. There is a gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, coffee maker and outdoor gas grill for your use. The Lodge does have WIFI. However, Cell phone reception is patchy in the mountain valley. There are a couple spots in the meadow where calls can be made although texts can be sent and received more consistently. Ask Ayrne and she can point out those hot spots! Guest access Black Mountain Lodge and the surrounding meadow and mountains are yours to enjoy. Do not climb in or around the barns, as they are not regularly maintained. Horses live on this property, please keep gates closed. Other things to note GUEST TESTIMONIALS Montana at its best! Black Mountain Lodge feels like the Montana I remember, off the beaten track, plenty of fresh air, and wide open views. The set-up is perfect for a family gathering--send the children to bed and the adults can stay up enjoying themselves on the porch. The entire place is perfectly outfitted with plenty of dishes, towels, beds, and privacy for a group. The caretaker is fantastic and only makes the experience more enjoyable. I can't say enough good things about BML. We're coming back next year! Perfect family vacation! Our stay here was even better than expected. Beautiful, peaceful, lots of old school fun that forced the teenagers to put down their phones and interact. The kids went on an adventure searching for wildflowers and came back enchanted with the land; absolutely blown away by this piece of heaven! We'll be back! We hosted our son's wedding at the Black Mountain Lodge and could not have asked for a more beautiful setting or gathering place for our family and friends who joined us from across the United States. Everyone who stayed on site in one of the lovely, clean sleeping cabins all commented on how well they slept under the cozy down comforters. We were able to prepare and serve 100 guests from the well equipped kitchen - something our family's gourmet chef had to see to believe. We reserved the lodge months in advance and Kim, the owner responded to all of our questions in a timely, friendly manner and the caretaker greeted us with a big smile and took the time to walk us around the property so that we felt right at home. We enjoyed feeding the horses before they were moved to a different place and can't wait to return to ride them when we have more time. We hope to return to the Black Mountain Lodge in the future so that we can relax and reminisce about how perfect it was for the wedding and family gathering. We would highly recommend this property for anyone who wants to reconnect with nature, family and themselves, or for someone who wants to host a do it yourself wedding. You won't be disappointed.
