Brae Cabin - Nature Surrounded and Tech Connected
Relaxation, Romance, and Nature. Brae Cabin is a beacon that matches your wants and needs. The outdoor night is transformed by the Enchanted Forest light show. Secluded in nature with just the right amount of technology to be interesting. The trails start at the entrance of Brae Cabin. Walk to Mt. Cameron or the Outpost (the cabin with an outhouse). An experience awaits. Hugh and Nancy welcome you! The space The Cabin Experience During the summer, the deck offers a treehouse like view of the surrounding woods. Brae Cabin allows you to leave your worries behind. If you need to "check in" or want to relax and watch a movie, the cabin's high-speed fiber can help. The only clock in the cabin identifies the day of the week. You are on cabin time - embrace it!! What Brae Cabin lacks in "spit and polish," it makes up for in ambiance. It isn't perfect. Something new! The 70s vintage microwave and stove have been replaced! The microwave is the latest and greatest. The stove is new but keeps a bit of a retro look. You are ready to try your culinary magic. The cabin is fully automated. You will be given an entry code for the front door. Instructions are provided on how to speak to Echo to do things like; Create a romantic lighting ambiance in the master bedroom, turn the deck red lighting on, play your favorite music, and start a laser light show directed at the cliffs. Saying "Echo, Goodbye" when you leave the cabin, automatically locks the door after three minutes, turns off the lights, and illuminates the walkway at night. Other commands such as Brighter, Romance, Play Music and TV match mood to ambiance. During the winter months, a fire place in the living room provides heat and a cozy fire. The wood stove in the sun porch provides another layer of warmth in the winter. Much more fun that saying, "Echo, set the temperature to 72 degrees" and having the heater come on. Cell phone service at the cabin is spotty at best. Cell phone Wifi calls can be made when connected to the internet. (If your phone has that feature.) The phone in the cabin has unlimited long distance calling and is used for making 911 calls. The TV is a Roku enabled TV. (Free TV shows and movies are available on the Roku channel). The cabin does not have cable or Dish TV. You are welcome to bring your Amazon, Netflix, Hulu or other service sign-on codes to watch streaming programs. An evening on the deck may include grilled delicacies and the libations of choice that you hauled up the stairs. A grill and wine rack are available. Night on the deck is special. The lights change to a soft red glow. The skies at Brae Cabin are dark. There is no town light pollution. On a clear night the stars awake. Be prepared for a visual feast. The soft red lights preserve your night vision. Depending on the time of year, you may get to see the fire flies. Thousands of nature's strobe lights put on a show for you or maybe their prospective mate. The Enchanted Forest is a favorite of guests. The forest transforms. Light into art, enchanting the forest. Nature awaits! Go outdoors and enjoy a walk. Hugh and Nancy own the land that surrounds Brae Cabin. Continue up the hill past the end of Dryden Ln towards the Mt. Cameron summit. Directions and trail maps are available. Do not try and get to the rock cliffs without speaking with Hugh or Nancy. The trail can be very steep. Rocks are not soft if you fall. The Cabin Tradition Many years ago a gentleman that owned the cabin started a tradition. He placed thick glass panes on the deck railing. Each day, he would put bird seed on the plates. The bird smorgasbord opened and the birds flocked to it. Join in the fun. Take a couple hand fulls and place the bird seed on the plates. All sorts of birds take advantage of the snacks. A book on Tennessee birds and binoculars are found inside. Play bird detective and have fun identifying them. For Pilots Flying In Pilots are welcome to fly into Jackson County Airport (1A7). We'll take care of transportation issues. Don't do a normal landing pattern. Follow the river in from either the north or south. Your landings will be on the numbers rather than half way down the runway. Don't be surprised if you think an invasion is taking place. Every couple of weeks, Fort Campbell and the TN Air Guard fly Blackhawks and the twin rotor CH-47 into the airport for both day and night training. The helicopters fly over the river and seem to be right off the cabin deck. Wave at the crew as they go by. Guest access The entire cabin is at your disposal. The garage is used by Hugh and Nancy to store equipment needed for maintenance. Other things to note Summer in Tennessee brings out the bugs. Bring your repellent along. Don't forget to love someone and check them for ticks at the end of the day. Take time to smell the flowers but be sure to avoid poison ivy. The product Technu is great to wash away the poison ivy oils. If you get the itchies from the three leafed plant, the local remedy of jewel weed salve is fantastic.
