Stone House 1807. Comfort, Peace and Nature.
Historic 200 yr old stone cottage, on three floors, renovated to a high standard, creating a very comfortable and peaceful retreat, whilst retaining soul and character. Extreme cleanliness is a priority. Quality bedding assures a good nights sleep. The bathroom offers a rain shower and soaking tub. The kitchen is fully equipped and fresh produce is available from the neighboring organic farm in season. Good hiking trails are accessible from the house. The space This is a 200-year-old stone and clapboard house, just one mile outside of New Paltz, an historic and vibrant college town, settled beneath the breathtaking Shawangunk Ridge, just 90 minutes from NYC. The 1807 Stone House was built by our ancestors for tenant farmers and now, after an extensive restoration, provides a very comfortable vacation house full of historic character. The house forms part of a 12-acre property of woods and streams that has been in our family for 10 generations and is also the site of our 1826 Federal style home that is listed on the National Historic Register. The Stone House is very peaceful and private - see the guest reviews for endorsement! The property is adjacent to a 23-mile rail trail, which is an easy hike or bike into town. The area is abundant with apple orchards, small independent farms and wineries. There is an organic farm just a 2-minute walk from the property where, in season, one can buy fresh vegetables, artisan breads and local cheese. Accommodation is on three levels, so we would advise against choosing our house if you are elderly or infirm. There are stair gates available for young children if required. The house has a modern zoned heating system that makes for cozy winter visits. In the summer there are AC units in the kitchen, living room and both bedrooms. The house is foam insulated so it is cosy warm in winter and keeps it's cool in summer. At the top are 2 bedrooms, one with a Queen bed and the other with 2 twin beds. The emphasis is on comfort, with ironed linens and plenty of pillows and throws. There is one full bathroom with claw foot tub and rain shower and limitless hot water. There are two living rooms on the second floor; one has white washed stonewalls, with a large gas fired stove set in the original open fireplace. There is a large sofa and armchair, TV for Netflix and DVD with movie selection Please note that there is NO cable TV, but there is fast Wi-Fi connection throughout the house. The other room is full of light and looks out over shrubs, trees and a stream. Stairs lead down to a full kitchen, with wide board maple floor and large open fireplace with propane stove. The kitchen is outfitted with stone countertops, European eye level oven and the basic necessities including a variety of quality cookware, coffee maker and blender. A range of spices, olive oil, coffee and selected teas are provided. The table can seat six and there is also an armchair and window seat. We provide complimentary breakfast items for your first morning. A Dutch door leads out on to a private terrace with picnic table and propane grill. This is a wonderful place to watch the abundant bird life. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer. The house sleeps 4. *We have a strict No smoking and No Pets policy. *We will always try to be flexible on our check in and check out times if we can, so please ask! **Minimum 3 x night stay Guest access Guests have sole use of the house and access to all the outside areas. In addition, there are bikes available for use on the rail trail.
