This 'organic-modern' 1883 home is located in the South End of Burlington, a hub of art, food, boutiques, yoga, craft beer, and coffee. It offers free on-site parking and is sun-filled. And we love hosting well-behaved dogs! The house earns top marks for cleanliness from our guests. Strong Wifi, separate rooms perfect for virtual work meetings and a private backyard to escape to after your work day! Friday night food trucks + Saturday Farmers' Market in summer only two blocks away! The space This clean, neat 'home away from home' is a wonderful, naturally lit 1,200 square foot private residence and is perfect whether you are traveling with family, for business, looking for a romantic retreat, or solo adventuring. The house is big enough to hold 4 adults comfortably. Should you like to have 5, please be in touch as there is an additional fee for that extra body. This is the PERFECT space for a couple or small family who is looking to get away from their city life, but still be able to work remotely or attend virtual school. The WiFi at the house is STRONG and stable and multiple streaming computers are easily handled. Each room offers a place for Zoom meetings, with plenty of space for all as well as offers multiple desktop places to place your laptop or larger desktop, multiple screened set up. The style of the home is inspired by 'hygge' - a blend of warmth, brick, stone, wood, and metal. Hygge is a Scandinavian term that can mean “an art of creating intimacy” (with yourself, friends, and your home). While there’s no one English word or simple definition to describe hygge, several can be used interchangeably to describe the idea of hygge such as coziness, charm, happiness, ‘contentedness’, security, familiarity, comfort, reassurance, kinship, and simpleness. This home is designed for you to feel all of those feelings and more. The historic charm of the house is mixed with modern touches and is a great place to bring your family or just your partner for a get-away in the heart of the city. With its quaint backyard and protected gazebo, lounging on the furniture on the patio, watching your dog play in the grass or star gazing at the night's sky, this peaceful home is designed to be a retreat for you while visiting Burlington. I take pride in the cleanliness of my home and the touches that will make you smile. I love to host well-behaved pets and think that the home is perfect for a total of two dogs (please contact me before you book if you have more than 2 dogs you would like to bring to the house). More than two large dogs might make the space feel "tight" so I really would like to speak to you before you book if you have more than two dogs. I have a small carriage house on the property that I stay in during your stay. I understand that one of the reasons you are looking for a home is because you would like your privacy and don't wish to 'share a space.' I respect that and you will rarely see me, if at all, during your stay. The home, driveway, and backyard are 100% yours to enjoy. LOCATION The home is located in the South End of the city of Burlington in an area called the Five Sisters. It is a historic district that has become the hub of culture, food, craft breweries, yoga studios, bakeries, Whole Foods type of grocery store (City Market), music scenes, and incredible artist galleries and studios. Located a mile from the center of downtown Burlington, the Five Sisters' Neighborhood is one that many of my guests never leave because of all it offers. In the summer you are just two blocks away from a giant farmers market on Saturdays and a wonderful food truck event each Friday night that hosts over 16 trucks. All walking distance. If you do decide to go down to Church Street, it is a short walk and an even shorter drive! Champlain College is 5/8 of a mile away and UVM is a mile. LIVING AREAS The living area consists of two sitting areas (one TV free and one with TV) as well as a spacious dining room that can easily host 6 guests at the table. The floors are wood but there are warm throw rugs designed to be rolled around on in front of the fire. Subtle mood lighting and giant windows offer this space a wonderful way to enjoy it during the day or in the evening. The space includes two bedrooms on the second floor, both with vaulted ceilings and plenty of closet space and storage in both rooms. There is one cozy bathroom on the main floor and two more wonderful spaces where folks can blow up the Aero bed air mattress provided or sleep on the SUPER comfy couch are available so that 5 people can fill the space comfortably. KITCHEN The kitchen is stocked for cooks, with a brand new gas stove and a refrigerator, a microwave, and toaster, and a Russell Hobbes coffee pot! I provide coffee and all sorts of sweeteners (real and fake), but I suggest you bring the creamer of your choice (half and half, non-dairy, etc.) There are just too many ways I can screw up buying the wrong creamer for you. BATHROOM This space is always stocked with towels, hand wash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer, and plenty of cabinet space for your own things. Bathroom includes a full bathtub and shower option. There is an opaque window that is fully frosted, so it is private but lets a ton of light in. (See image of the bathroom for detail) Just a reminder, it is the only bathroom on the property. So if you are planning on having 4+ staying here, just be aware there will be a line for the bathroom at some point during your stay. But I do offer plenty of air freshener to be sure you all stay happy with each other. All dishes, sheets, towels and washcloths will be clean and ready for you to use (have enough for five guests). Please feel free to use what you need in the house including cooking oils, seasonings, etc. I am sure you will be quite busy while staying in Burlington, with so much to do, but if you do want a quiet night at home, we do have HD cable TV, a giant couch to sink into, and a gas wood stove that can create a "stay at home" date night very easily. Other things to note - we are generally a shoe-free household, so bring your slippers as we have wood floors and even though the home is warm and toasty, slippers during the winter are always a great addition to your suitcase. I’ve offered up some pictures of the stairs in my home - they are 1883 stairs…Steeper than most in current-day homes, please be aware that if you have any mobility challenges, they may be a challenge for you. Please reach out and ask any questions about them… There are sturdy handrails and plenty of places to hold onto for those who may feel a little unsteady but I would hate for you to book and then realize that the stairs may be an issue for you, or aging parents… I do offer a late check out the day of your departure if I don't have anyone coming in following your trip - please ask for details if interested... Also, if you find yourself wanting to check in before 3pm the day of your arrival, please do check with me to see if I can get you in sooner! Happy to work around your travel needs! Guest access You have 100% access to this entire home and the driveway. This home is fully equipped for your visit, from a full kitchen (recently purchased gas stove and oven and dishwasher, and always cold fridge, as well as gourmet pots and pans to help you create your masterpiece!), oils, seasonings, laundry, living and dining rooms to host small gatherings, as well as a stunning, fully enclosed backyard with gazebo and comfy chairs. This space is meant to be lived in. Other things to note This home is designed to be lived in as I mentioned in the listing, but I prefer if you keep the "energy" to a controllable level. The home is situated between two amazing neighbors and their families and it would be nice to keep them as "good neighbors." Therefore, I ask that if you are going to "entertain" yourself in the home, you do so with the same care you would of your own home. And understand that loud voices, music, and well, you know, loud activity after 9pm will not bode well for your review. So please be kind to the home and my neighbors. In terms of having children in the home, it is not set up to have "bumper guards" and such to keep toddlers safe from sharp edges, but you are welcome to bring your family as long as you are aware of my steeps stairs to the bedrooms and the mindset that we do have wood floors and not all toddlers enjoy crawling around on them. I love to host well behaved pets and think that the home is perfect for a total of two dogs (please contact me before you book if you have more than 2 dogs you would like to bring to the house). More than two large dogs might make the space feel "tight" so I really would like to speak to you before you book if you have more than two dogs. Let’s talk about my smoking policy - I realize that it is legal to smoke pot in VT but I prefer you keep cigarettes, marijuana, and any sort form of Vaping devices off my property. As I am surrounded by families with young children, I prefer that you not smoke while on my property. Please let me know what questions you have for me concerning my policy. I do hold firm to this policy - smoking out back and putting the used cigarettes in my garbage doesn't count as "not smoking on my property..." I hate to be a stickler, but it is hard to get rid of the smell of smoke, even when folks smoke outside. Note - the two bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs, so if you tend to get up in the middle of the night, just be aware a trip down the stairs is in your future. Also, please leave our little home as you found it! We take pride in our space and hope that you will respect it as well and enjoy yourself! Just saying! There is no need to take out the trash, strip the beds, start the laundry, or vacuum when you check out (that is unless you look around and realize that the home took a beating during your stay, then do what you feel you need to, to earn a 5-star review…). The cleaning fee covers things such as washing towels and linens, making beds, deep clean of the listing, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen etc., but it sure makes it easier when things are left less like a hotel room and more like your own home, so any effort to make it like your own home is appreciated. Finally, should you care to stay at a time that I have the property blocked, please reach out using the "inquiry" option to see if I can open it up for you and the timeline you need! I am usually able to help! Registration number MRT-10126712
