Farm Getaway with River + Field & Garden Views
Located in Litchfield County in Northwestern CT, River Meadows Farm sits on 27 acres of fields, woods and river. Relax and refresh in a private apartment with separate entrance, connected to the main house of a historic 1835 farmhouse. Enjoy the field and garden views and listen to the river at night. Walk through our woods, light a bonfire, or have fun exploring the river. Minutes from trails, wineries, breweries, antique shops, dining, and more! The space Originally the summer kitchen of the main house, the space is now a private apartment. While the space has been upgraded with respect to the past, (the bricks that form the fireplace were made here in Woodbury!), we hope you’ll admire the old touches and enjoy staying in our authentic New England farmhouse. We are just a few minutes from Main Street’s shops, restaurants, and grocery stores (named one of CT’s best health food stores), including numerous antique shops that gives Woodbury its “Antiques Capital of CT” title. You will enter through your own private entrance on the side of the house, accessed by a driveway on the lower portion of the property, with 16 steps leading up to the door. The space is comprised of an eat-in kitchen with a full fridge, stove, dishwasher + extras such as a blender, toaster, and coffee maker (organic coffee and sugar provided). You’ll then enter the living room with a non-working fireplace and smart TV. The TV is connected to our cable, but all other apps can be signed into with your own accounts. Connect your phone to the provided Bluetooth speaker to enjoy music outdoors. Wireless internet also provided. The full bath has a walk-in shower and linen closet stocked with amenities. A washer and dryer are located in a closet by the back door. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed, closet, and dresser. A door in the kitchen connects the apartment to the basement, as well as a stairwell that leads to the main house. This will be locked from both sides. Should you need to access the basement electric panel for whatever reason, we will assist. You will not have a key to our garage; however, we’ll happily store bikes, gear, etc. for you overnight. Attached to the garage is a hose to wash off with after a day in the river or at a nearby lake. You can also enjoy a cold plunge in the stock tank (not used by animals)! A BBQ outside is yours to enjoy, as is the large firepit with supply of wood. Outdoor games are available, just ask and we’ll leave them outside for you. If wild black raspberries are in season (June/July), pick to your hearts content! Enjoy fresh herbs growing outside your front door. Have breakfast on the stone terrace and evening cocktails under the shade of a tree overlooking the hayfield. Pick from the flower fields (July-Oct), with the accompaniment of a host. Come and relax in a piece of history and enjoy the simple pleasures of a slower pace in an idyllic New England town! Guest access You will have unlimited access to the backyard, outdoor sitting areas, river, and 27 acres of fields and woods to explore. We live on the farm in the main house full-time. You will see us coming and going, working in the gardens, tending to our farm stand, or perhaps down in the river on a hot weekend. We will respect your privacy and will only interact based on your level of comfort. We’re always happy to provide recommendations for places to see and things to do. Other things to note LOCATION: We are located across the street from a soccer field that hosts lively children's games and also on a state route that connects Woodbury to Bethlehem, Washington, Litchfield and more. ECO: The space is free of fragrance and toxic cleaning products. We only use Branch Basics, vinegar and other eco cleaning products that are safe and effective. If you would like to have an air purifier in the space during your stay, we are happy to accommodate. NO SHOES POLICY: We kindly ask that you remove your shoes upon entering. There is a bench for you to sit on to comfortably remove your shoes. They can be stored on the shelves in the bench or on the boot tray. From grass clippings and sand to salt and mud, this allows the space to be comfortable for you and the next guest. Please bring slippers or socks for added comfort. SEPTIC: Old house, old pipes! Only toilet paper can be flushed in the toilet. No other items will be flushed, even if marked "flushable." Damage caused to the septic or plumbing system will be the responsibility of the guest. WILDLIFE: Our home has quarterly pest treatments due to the nature of our surroundings. It is normal to spot a few bugs inside the house, such as ladybugs, stinkbugs or spiders. There is a dustbuster under the sink to quickly make them disappear. Outdoors, it is possible to encounter bees, wasps or ticks and see deer, frogs, bats, fox, etc. during your stay. We work diligently to maintain cleanliness and tidiness for your enjoyment, but our home is nearly 200 years old and the occasional encounter is possible.
