Take it easy at this unique and peaceful getaway. This is a private one bedroom side apartment on our home. Cozy yet comfortable, off the beaten path but not far from anything in the Keweenaw, you'll enjoy your stay at this renovated former antique store apartment in the sleepy village of Ahmeek. 35 minutes to Copper Harbor, 30 minutes to Mount Bohemia, 10 minutes to Historic Calumet. Two block walk for ice cream at the streetcar station. Back country skiing and biking trails behind the village. The space This building was known as the Kestner house back in the day. It was built as part of a development by the Ahmeek mining Company to house miners and their families. As far as we could determine, at some point the right side of the house was expanded into a warehouse type addition, and subsequently built out into an apartment. The house was occupied by a Mrs Phillips who was renowned for her extensive flower gardens, some remnants of which can be seen in the backyard. For the last several years it was used only in the summer as a junk sale shop called the Ahmeek Seek N Peek. It was abandoned on the passing of the owner and fell into disrepair. We got the building in 2020 full of antiques and stuff, and did a comprehensive rehab, added the garage, and reimagined the apartment as a quiet Airbnb unit. We think you're going to enjoy relaxing here, and hope your stay is comfortable! Guest access The backyard area and patio furniture are shared with us, as well as the gas grill. Other things to note The bathroom shower is a 30 inch wide stand up unit, which may not be adequate for some travelers. We did make sure to put the shower head up nice and high.
