The well-appointed Ozro Meacham House provides the ideal mix of amenities for digital nomads, traveling academics and medics, and outdoor enthusiasts. The unit offers a separate workspace and is a 2-minute walk to galleries, shops, restaurants and microbreweries, a full-service grocery and pharmacy and as little as a 15-minute drive to some of Vermont’s most popular hiking, biking, kayaking, birding, and skiing destinations. The space At its most basic, the nearly 1,000-square-foot Unit 1 includes a main entrance with seating, a coat rack, and boot tray for shoes and boots; a sizable entryway upstairs with seating, a place to hang totes and bags, and a closet; bedroom with a queen-size bed; a study with a dedicated workspace and two doors that close; a living room with a 4K Roku TV, bluetooth speaker, books, board games, and barware; a well-equipped eat-in kitchen; and a full bathroom. Ozro Meacham House is on the National Historic Register. Originally built as a single-family home in 1850, it was split into three units in the mid-1900s, one of which we live in. Lovingly restored, the property retains original features throughout such as hardwood floors, crown molding, and six-panel Christian doors with original brass and crystal hardware. While that may all sound a bit formal, rest assured that the spaces have been thoughtfully designed and styled in a comfortable, clean, modern aesthetic with a nod to Brandon’s designation as Vermont’s Art & Soul. Many of the pieces in Unit 1 are by local artists, including woodworker and painter Robin Kent, fabric artist Judith Reilly, folk artist Medana Gabbard, and painters dug Nap and Woody Jackson—whose iconic Holstein cow has been the face of Vermont-made Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for nearly 40 years. Guest access Guests may access shared spaces, including the parking area, the side lawn that abuts the parking area, the recreation equipment storage and trash and recycling areas in the carriage house, and the basement laundry area. Other things to note Here are a few important points we want to make sure you're aware of: Depending on the length of your stay, we may provide you with a rental agreement that needs to be signed before booking. Stairs: There is a flight of stairs from the main hall to the unit. And the coin-op laundry area is located in the basement, which is accessed by a steep, narrow flight of stairs. Laundry: Speaking of the laundry area, the washer and dryer—again, located in the basement—are coin-operated. The washer costs $2.00 per load. The dryer also costs $2.00 per load. The machines accept quarters only, no debit or credit cards. Sound: In old homes, and in multi-unit homes in particular, it is inevitable that some level of sound transfer through shared walls and floors/ceilings will occur, and Ozro Meacham House is no exception. Climate: There's a thermostat (in the entryway to the left of the bedroom door) that guests control. There is a window A/C from mid-May to mid-September. Logins: There is a 4K Roku smart TV in the unit. When you turn the TV on, Roku will prompt you to activate guest mode. From there, you can readily access free content, but if you want to stream any subscription services (e.g., Netflix, Prime, Hulu), you will need to login using your own account logins. There is also a Nest wifi point that functions as a smart assistant and can also stream subscription services (e.g., Pandora). Privacy: There's a Temp°Stick tucked behind the TV that monitors temperature and humidity. It’s Vermont. Storms and power outages happen. And frozen pipes are a drag. Each unit has its own heating system, and we would not necessarily know if there were a problem.
