This is a private home in California's "Gold Country". Close to town and easy access to highway 108. The master bedroom has a KING SIZE BED, private bathroom, fireplace, large flat screen cable TV, large deck overlooking the property and a lounge area with a day bed (if there is a third person), table and chairs. There are also 2 other bedrooms available if there are more than 3 guests in your party. One bedroom has a king size bed and the other bedroom has a queen size bed with a deck overlooking the property. These two bedrooms share a large bathroom. We live on the property but not in the Airbnb home. We are at the 2500 ft. elevation and have 4 seasons. Whatever time of year you choose to visit you'll find something unique to do. There is so much to see and do here. This book will tell you about the location of shopping centers and some local restaurants. It will give you some history of Sonora and the surrounding areas. It will tell you about some of the great attractions such as caving, hiking trails, white water rafting, gold panning, horseback riding, golf, swimming and much more. If you are a wine lover it will tell you about the great wineries and wine tasting rooms to visit. This guidebook also includes maps and tells you the distance and estimated driving time to the different attractions from the Hacienda. We chose Sonora as our home because every time we visited from the Bay Area, we found something new and exciting to do, from wine tasting, golfing, antique hunting, frog jumping, music festivals, gold panning, swimming, horseback riding, skiing, fishing or hiking in Yosemite National Park and the Emigrant Wilderness. Historic Sonora - A town with a past - In 1848, miners from Sonora, Mexico, found gold here and established a camp. Sonora became known as the "Queen of the Southern Mines" and was the biggest town in the Mother Lode. Present Day Sonora - After the gold rush, Sonora's central location kept it going. Today it is a busy county seat and the shopping area of Tuolumne County. It is the "nearest biggest little town" this side of Yosemite National Park. Yosemite Gold Country - Highway 120 offers year-round access to Yosemite National Park. Our county features Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows – exquisitely beautiful! The Emigrant Wilderness encompasses several thousand square miles. The elevation ranges from 1,405 feet in Jamestown to 9,628 feet at Sonora Pass. Sierra trailheads, pristine lakes and streams are available nearby for hiking, fishing, boating or just sunbathing. Many forest roads are available for mountain biking, walking and snowshoeing. The Sierra geology is popular with rock climbing enthusiasts. Enjoy horseback rides and pack trips into the Emigrant Wilderness. Downhill skiing, snowboarding and alpine skiing is available at nearby Dodge Ridge, and an ice skating rink can be found in Long Barn. Adjacent to Sonora are Columbia and Railtown State Parks, a preserved gold rush town and a railroad/ movie-making museum. Museums - The old Sonora jail houses the Tuolumne County Museum and Historical Society. You will also want to visit the Columbia State Park Museum, Tuolumne City Museum and in Sonora, the Military Museum, one of the best in northern California. Railtown - Located in Jamestown, California, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is home to one of America’s last authentic, operating railroad roundhouses. Known as “The Movie Railroad,” Railtown’s locomotives and cars have appeared in over 300 film and TV productions, including Back to the Future 3, High Noon, Petticoat Junction, and Little House on the Prairie. Steam trains operate on weekends through most of the year. Tour the Historic Jamestown Shops and Roundhouse daily. Ride behind a real steam locomotive. Columbia State Historic Park - Experience the sights and sounds of a living gold rush town that's been perfectly preserved. Authentic businesses dating back to 1850. Ride the stage coach. Tour the only working gold mine open to the public and learn how to pan for gold. This park is known as the best preserved gold rush town in California. Visitors can experience a bygone era watching proprietors in period clothing conduct business in the style of yesterday. Championship Golf Courses - Great golf courses abound in the Sierra foothills. The variety of landscapes and views, with varied degrees of challenge, has something to offer all levels of golfers. There are six championship golf courses in the area, including: Mountain Springs Golf Club, Greenhorn Creek, Pine Mt. Lake, Forest Meadows and Saddlecreek Golf Resort, which is home to the Northern California PGA. And 9 hole courses, Phoenix Lake and Twain Harte. Sierra Foothill Wineries - The Gold Country has become known as the "other wine country". Get a taste of California's Historic Wine Country where touring is intimate, not crowded and the wines exceptional. More than 20 wineries are located around the surrounding communities. See up close a 44 pound gold nugget on display at Ironstone Winery. Black Oak Casino -Open 24 hours a day is only 15 minutes from Sonora. Proudly owned and operated by the Tuolumne band of Mi-Wok Indians, Black Oak offers more than casinos and gambling. You'll also find live musical performances by popular artists, a variety of restaurants, a first-rate bowling alley and fun arcade. Horseback riding - In the beautiful Stanislaus National Forest Emigrant Wilderness out of Alpine Meadows pack station or Kennedy Meadows River Rafting - Tuolumne River Rafting and Stanislaus River Rafting are perfect summertime fun. Get wet, get wild. See the countryside from a unique vantage point. The area's finest natural wonders are within an hour's drive. Yosemite - Whether you camp, hike, take photos, climb or drive through, the grandeur of this National Park is unforgettable. Yosemite is one of the first wilderness national parks to be established. Early visitors to the park were Ansel Adams and John Muir who loved its spectacular beauty -- the sheer cliffs, the deep valleys and the glaciers. Through their preservation efforts, millions of people enjoy these wonders of nature each year. The northwest entrance to Yosemite National Park (via Highway 120) is just one hour from Sonora, California. Leaving Sonora, you will climb from an elevation of 1,800 feet to over 8,000 feet, and then descend into Yosemite Valley (4,000 feet elev). Yosemite Valley, 24 miles from the northwest hwy 120 park entrance, is the hub of the park's activities. Calaveras Big Trees State Park - Along with two magnificent groves of giant sequoias, the park features over 6,000 acres of pine forest on both sides of the Stanislaus River. Walk or drive amid the Giant Sequoias. Caves - Mercer Caverns is the Showplace of the Sierras. Go deep inside Mother Earth to view spectacular formations, such as Angel's Wings. Moaning Cavern contains a chamber large enough to hold the Statue of Liberty! California Cavern there are walking tours, adventure trips, mining, and picnicking Moaning Caverns offers rappelling, zip lining, gold panning and exploring adventures. Go spelunking and get a history lesson at the same time. Lakes - Visit the New Melones Lake Visitor Center and enjoy one of the many nature trails around the lake. We have both large and small lakes that are ideal for those who want to water ski, kayak, fish, sail, canoe or houseboat. Area lakes include New Melones, Pinecrest, Lake Tulloch, Lake Don Pedro and many more.
