Tamarindo is a hidden surfer community nestled in the Guanacaste region, on the West Coast of Costa Rica. It is ideally located one hour from Liberia International Airport, with private shuttles to Tamarindo available for all arrival flights (best to book shuttle in advance with RPM). Tamarindo is located between Playa Conchal and Flamingo to the north, and Playa Negra and Avellana to the south. It is a 2 hour drive to Nosara and Samara, 2-3 hour drive to the Volcanos, 4 hour drive to San Jose, and a 4-5 hour drive to Manuel Antonio. No Rental Cars Needed Tamarindo is so easy to get around that you do not need a car to enjoy this community. Shuttles to and from Liberia Airport are cheap and abundant. In town, you can walk everywhere. The walk from Casa Blanca to downtown Tamarindo is 5-10 minutes along the beach. Taxis are available everywhere. If you need a car for a couple days, there are several car rental companies based in Tamarindo. And, there are several Golf Cart Rental operations close to the house too. Weather – Warm and Wonderful Tamarindo is a tropical setting, and quite warm year round. Late November to April is the Dry Season, where temperatures are hotter and rain is rare. During May through August, temperatures are still warm and the occasional afternoon rain shower cools everything off (Our favorite time to visit). September and October is the Green Season: slightly cooler, cloudier and wetter… though it is not common for a rain shower to last more than a few hours. Beaches and Surf This Community loves its Sandy Beaches and Surf. Playa Tamarindo and Playa Grande make up a large bay with a variety of surf breaks. Directly in front of the property is public beach access to a quiet section of beach that is kid friendly and has great surf. Downtown Tamarindo is known for their highly rated surf schools, and you can find the ocean covered with groms during peak season. Playa Langosta (2 min drive) has both point and beach breaks, and is great for watching the winter sunset. For more advanced surf, check out Playa Grande (20 min drive north) and Playa Avellana (20 min drive south). Best surf is at High Tide. Restaurants & Shopping Downtown Tamarindo has over 30 restaurants with something for everyone. Yelp will help you find exactly what you are craving. From local Craft Beer Taverns, to Delectable Italian Cuisine, to epic Thai and Argentinian Fusions, your inner-Foodie will thank you. Stores and Boutiques line the main street too, and are wonderful to spend hours just walking from shop to shop. Adventures and Activities Tamarindo is one of those towns that caters to the active lifestyles in all of us. To name a few: Surfing, Surf Schools, Yoga, Horseback Riding, ATV Tours, Sunset Cruises, Junior Lifeguards, Volcano Tours, Zip-Lining, Nature Hikes, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Day-Spas, Canyoning, Egg-Laying-Turtle Tours, Hot-Spring Tours, and Water Parks. All can be arranged through RPM, or any local tour group in town. Nightlife Tamarindo is a great place to Drink and Dance the night away. Beach Bars, Sports Bars and Discotheques are all within walking distance. Cocktails, Pints, and Wine are heavily poured for all occasions. And, establishments uniquely cater toward 20’s, 30’s, and 40+ age groups for a more engaging social experience. If you want to stay out late, this is the place to do it, especially in peak season.
