Saxtons River Studio apartment
Located in a small, friendly SE Vermont village, walk to the village market or up the hill to Vermont Academy. Short drive to Bellows Falls, Putney, Brattleboro and the ski areas: Okemo, Stratton, Bromley. Quiet, peaceful, solar powered heating and cooling, organic vegetables in season. Other things to note The Studio Apartment also has some historical significance. From 1830 to 1860 the building was the workshop of Artemus Leonard who was, at the time, one of America's premier gunsmiths. He made high end target percussion rifles, many of which were repurposed as sniper rifles during the civil war. One of Winslow Homer's famous civil war paintings called "the Sniper" shows one of Leonard's rifles in action. Saxtons River was also a stop on the underground railway to Canada and the Saxtons River Historical Society on Main Street is a font of knowledge for that period in the town's history.
