Dogs leashed & never left alone while you are out. The space At Woods and Meadows Farm we have 40 acres of land, about half of it is woods. Your cabin, Raven Watch, is between part of the woods and a large meadow of pollinators and hayfield, next to a one-acre pond. The cabin has excellent cross-ventilation with screens and sliding glass doors for a pretty view of the pond. The cabin is easy to warm with the wood stove on chilly nights. Wood is provided. Lots of glass all around for a refreshing view, especially overlooking the woods and pond from upstairs. You will have space to eat, play cards and visit downstairs, but if you like, enjoy the picnic table and fire ring outside. When you arrive we will give you a brief orientation, then check with you during your stay to be sure everything is working well for you. We have one other rental cabin on the land, closer to our house, called Dragon Loft, that got the popular vote for third best Hipcamp site in Minnesota for 2021. It can be found on that website (as Woods and Meadows Farm, in Wrenshall.) I hope that you will enjoy the Raven Watch cabin as much as we do. It got its name because there is a nest of ravens in the woods across the pond where new chicks are raised every year. There are trails in our woods to explore, but please do not disturb any birds or other animals. It is possible to see deer, turkeys, otters, songbirds, frogs, eagles, coyotes, porcupines, turtles, and other creatures... Remember to keep pets on a lead and respect our wild neighbors. We also want you to be safe, so please ask us if you have questions, keep your eyes open, and wear your insect repellent (northern MN has ticks.) We enjoy sharing this special space with you. Welcome! Guest access You will find our driveway on County Road One, south of Wrenshall. Our mailbox has the fire number on it in reflective numbers, east side of the road. Our gravel drive turns through some trees from the road that hide our house. Once you drive in, you will see the house in front of you, and a gravel turn to the left, towards the barn. Do not drive up to the barn, but take an immediate right at the fork in the drive, following the gravel drive down the hill for about a quarter mile to your cabin. Landmarks: You will pass the other cabin up on a little hill to your right (watch for people and other vehicles) and continue past it for a few hundred yards, winding all the way to the end of the gravel drive. You will glimpse the pond on your left, and the hayfield will be to your right. Park next to the cabin. The entrance of the cabin is on the side by the pond. We would appreciate meeting by our house when you first arrive, then come and go as you please, but please drive only on the gravel. It is a one-lane road, so watch for our service vehicle, humans walking, or our friendly farm dog! We may have other guests at our home or staying in the other cabin, so please proceed slowly and carefully. :) Thanks! Other things to note PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU REGISTER: 1) Plan ahead: no shower or fridge at this cabin. BYO Cooler and ice. : ) Solar will run the lights, radio and will charge your phones, but does not support extra electrical appliances including C-PAPs, rice cookers, fans, blow-driers, electric blankets, crock pots, etc. Remember that this is a unique north-woods experience, so be aware that you can still be totally comfortable, but you will be without a shower, fridge, or electric heating elements. 2) We love dogs, but PLEASE NOTE the rules... It can be difficult to keep a rustic cabin clean if dogs are allowed on the beds! Also, please give them plenty of potty breaks. ; ) Towels are provided for you to take responsibility for wet paws and mud before you let them in, etc. Bring your kennel or dog bed to keep them comfortable at night. Dogs must never be left alone, and must always be under control, outdoors as well as inside the cabin. Use a lead when out and about. Poop scooper and bags are provided and must be used. Thanks. 3) Know your own limitations. Sorry, our property and cabins are not ADA accessible. This is a rustic place. Also, the heavy-duty staircase inside the cabin has a 12-inch rise (higher than normal) on the sturdy stairs to the loft with the second bed. Please keep this in mind before renting, if you have any issues with strength or balance. Most able folk can climb and descend without a problem, and there is a sturdy railing. 4) It goes without saying that due to the nature of being located in the countryside, there are hazards. Not limited to uneven ground, streams, ponds, fallen tree limbs, unexpected obstacles, wild animals... Sometimes you might see a mouse! (-Rare, but please let us know if you do, and keep your food secure in tight bins or in the cooler. This is a cabin, not a house.) Please be careful when out and about on our land. We do our best to keep the trails clear. Help us by taking care while hiking and exploring. Don't leave food or garbage outside, as there are scavengers, from raccoons to bears. Ticks are probably our most dangerous critters though. Wear your repellent to prevent Lymes Disease, Anaplasmosis, etc. We will provide bug spray if you forgot yours at home. : )
