The Amos Brown House.
Set in the middle of 30 acres of forest & meadow, this dog friendly house is surrounded by wildlife, stone walls, and hiking trails. It's a peaceful paradise accessed by a beautiful country road which happens to be one of the top 10 foliage routes in the VT. The house is fully equipped, comfortably lived-in, and ready for you. It has everything you need except a quick trip to the grocery store. During the winter, this is perfect for snowmobilers as the VAST trail is easily accessible. The space This property comfortably accommodates 6 people in three bedrooms and 2 floors. There is a full bath on both floors. This historic house, which is a testament to early farming in Vermont, was fully restored in 2004, including the attached barns. The surrounding open fields bordered by stone walls and forest are the perfect setting to "unplug" from urban life and reconnect to simplicity and nature. You can sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch and listen to the birds or view the incredible night skies where you'll see more stars than you knew existed. Guest access You will have complete access to the whole house & barns and surrounding acreage. There are clearly marked forest trails circumnavigating the property. There is also a trail access to the east that will lead you to a large pond and beaver dam. The VAST trail, a winter snowmobile trail, crosses our property and is perfect for X-C skiing and snowshoeing in winter or exploring, hiking & leisure walks in spring, summer or fall. Other things to note This house is very close to MassMOCA in Williamstown. In Jacksonville, just 8 miles away, you'll find The Honora Winery, where you can sample wines or attend one of their many events. Not into wine, but love beer? Visit the J'Ville Brewery in the same building and sample their beers and bring home a growler. Next door is the Jacksonville General Store - a quintessential Vermont store with everything you need: Retail grocery, butcher shop, deli, beer & wine and Vermont products. And next door to that is the Spoonwood Cabin Creamy, where locally made (and really good!) artisanal cheeses are hand produced. Also in the village is Stone Soldier Pottery. Nearby are Sugar Houses where you can buy this years maple syrup and farms with local produce and eggs. Keep on exploring and you'll find Sadawga Lake, known for its incredible kayaking and canoeing - there's a floating island in the middle! Not far from that is Harriman Reservoir, where you can swim, sun or paddle the day away.
